    Áperi was a truly magical experience. My wife and I elected for the Chef’s Table. My wife had the local wine pairing. I don’t drink, and the staff quickly offered a non-alcoholic mocktail pairing that I jumped on (which was phenomenal - I had a delightful spiced cranberry mocktail that reminded me of holiday wassail and a pineapple-based mocktail that tasted incredible and somehow looked even more spectacular). We were initially pointed to Áperi by a couple restaurant guides (e.g., Eater and Time Out) and were drawn in by the beautiful pictures of the plating. The experience lived up to the hype - the dishes were creative, perfectly balanced and breathtaking in presentation. The head chef, Jesús Vázquez Reyna, presented each dish and walked us through the ingredients and preparation. His passion and excitement for the food coming out of the kitchen was clear, both in his descriptions and in the precision of the plating and the flavors. Our favorites were a ceviche with fresh buratta (a yin and yang of tangy and creamy, and also one of the prettiest dishes of the evening), a roasted and smoked duck with a complex, earthy black mole that I didn’t want to stop eating and a simple, yet elegant beet salad that I’m still thinking about. Even the pre-dessert palate cleanser, papaya with yuzu granita, was to die for. Our server throughout the evening was incredibly knowledgeable, informing us about each wine, and was so friendly - he shared some excellent recommendations for local fare that we’ll be trying during our stay. Overall, this was one of our favorite dinners of all time. Áperi is a must-try if you are in San Miguel (and is worth planning a special visit to San Miguel if you weren’t already thinking traveling there)!

    We had the Chef’s table experience - amazing. Food was exceptional, fresh, super clean and presentation on point. Service was friendly and accommodating. It was all perfection. Cannot recommend this experience more.

    Tasting menu was not worth at all, the bread with the eggplant mayonnaise with truffle at the beginning and the dessert were truly amazing, other than that it was very poor, specially the tatoaba ceviche it tasted like cheap lemon juice, the main course was tasteless I even felt like I wanted to ask for salt or something. The mushrooms also felt like ponzu with lemon, not so good, only ok the salad.. wine pairing was just ok, the service was very good but the food not at all. It was a little more than 6,000 pesos for 2, we ended up a little hungry.

    Tl;Dr: find a reason to go Tonight we ate at the chefs table. This was a table for up to eight in the kitchen with the chef, Jesus, four Sous, and our attendant. The space is intimate and beautiful tucked in the restaurant away from the busy bar and main dining area. The kitchen is quiet and professional. The food was impeccably presented. The plates (7 in total) were superb. The leche del Tigre was bright and acidic with yuzu. The pork three ways was incredible: Suckling pig with glasslike skin, well rendered belly, and a chorizo sauce that was one part pork one part velvet. The dish that is worth the trip over and over and over again is the octopus. Dear reader, I’ve eaten my fair share, and likely your fair share, of octopus all over this beautiful world. This octopus is the best. I know what you’re thinking…but you’re wrong. This octopus was lightly crispy (I said it) on the outside and meltingly tender within. There was a glossy layer of ponzu brushed on top. It was served with green mole. The wine pairings were a blend of Mexican and Spanish. They were lovely and served chilled. The non-alcoholic menu deserves special recognition. Each glass was balanced between acid, herbal, and sweet. All n/a bartenders out there in SMA take notes. Chef Jesus had his hands on every dish. I can confirm as he was ten feet away from me all night. The food was meticulous without being fussy. It was clearly Mexican. But he clearly has studied in France. When he came to the table he was not pressured and easy to talk to. He answered every question I had, even questions he shouldn’t. This has been a good year of eating for me highlighted by trips to French laundry, la Bernadin and probably a total of ten or so other stars. When Michelin finds its way here, you won’t be able to get this table so go there now.

    The service was amazing and the beet salad very memorable. The main dish we had, the fish dish, was ok, a little bland for our taste. The ambience is serene though a bit on the flat side. Overall a nice place to celebrate a special occasion.

    Amazing service and the food was exceptional in a town full of exceptional restaurants. Highly recommend the chef table which is one delightful surprise after another.
