   Our experience at Arisaig was a nightmare from beginning to end. Waiting staff were inexperienced & one in particular I would describe as completely uninterested. Service was terrible but not as bad as the food which was absolutely shocking. Our order was placed but then had to be changed as we were later advised that two of the eight dishes were no longer available & neither was there any draft beer on that Saturday night. Starters were two cullen skink, wood pigeon & black pudding and scallops. Cullen skink, although it tasted ok, was tepid despite the bowls being scalding making us think it had been heated up in a microwave. The wood pigeon was overdone & the scallops were underdone. We had actually also ordered a side dish with our starters but this did not arrive. Main courses were 2 seafood linguine, medium cooked steak & venison. The seafood linguine was possibly the worst pasta dish I have ever tasted. The pasta was not cooked well & the seafood was undistinguishable, pieces of grey 'fish' not worth taking the risk on quite frankly. The steak was most definitely not medium, more like steak tartar at some points & the venison steak was cold & therefore sent back. Once the 'uninterested' waitress came back from the kitchen she asked 'what would we like done with the venison', did we want it reheated?(!) We asked her to ask the chef what he/she thought should be done & she came back to advise a fresh dish was being prepared. However when this 'fresh' dish arrived it was quite clearly the same piece of venison reheated. At this point we asked to speak to the manager which seemed to cause some discussion/confusion between the waiting staff. Finally the manager from the restaurant upstairs came down to speak to us. He was very apologetic & agreed that our food was unacceptable. We did not pay for our food but it was a night out ruined. Final point, something really needs to be done about the unbearable loud volume of music from Metropolitan.

   The food was lovely. Really really nice. In the two hours we were there we had three drinks. Our glasses were left empty most of the time. We were never asked if we wanted more, and when we did stop someone to ask for another drink it took 15-20 minutes for them to arrive. It was the same for our first drinks from having sat down upon arrival. We almost had our food before our drinks (ordered a good ten minutes later). When commenting to a waitress she replied with, the bar's busy and hurried away but did not approach the bar to comment or enquire where our drinks were. The restaurant was almost full, but we could see the bar and it did not appear overly busy or even rushed. Very very disappointing would hesitate to recommend.

   Arisaig advertises itself (on radio) as using Scotland's larder, not an overabundance of Scottish products in the lunchtime menu being served, that I could see. Cullen skink had plenty of cream but I wasn't going to choke on any fish. Seafood linguine was quite good, white fish aplenty, spicy as I like it. Daughter's burger was pretty good even though it came fully loaded although I'd asked for a nude burger on a bun. Evening menu had more dishes but not enough to justify the ad hype. Wine list described as unique. Not unique, not bad but definitely not unique. Anyway, I expected more.

   Nach 2 Wochen tollem Urlaub in Schottland war die Atmosphäre und der Service, aber auch die Speisen nur sehr Durchschnitt. Vor allem die sehr kühle Atmosphäre in einer ehemaligen MArkthalle und die Lautstärke dadurch lassen keine echte Dining-Stimmung aufkommen. Aber insgesamt schon ok

   There were 6 people in our party. They didn't have the wine that we ordered but let us sample the one that they offered as an alternative, which was okay. We ordered our starters. Waitress came back to let us know that they couldn't give us the starters that we ordered because they didn't have enough. We changed our order and it duly arrived and it was cold. 4 out of the party couldn't eat the starters. The main meal was okay. Large serving. We were offered complimentary tea & coffee because of the starters. We'll not be back. Really disappointed.

   Visited with business colleagues and some guests near Christmas and the only option was their Christmas menu, which was fine. The food was very presented and tasty. We were sat "outside" in the covered courtyard which was not exactly a cosy atmosphere as the Candleriggs Market was not busy that evening. I had dinned at Arisaig previously when they were in their old venue in the West City Centre and remember their menu and food to be very traditional and upmarket Scottish fare. Will definitely return on another occasion.
