   As a devoted fan of Bar Chinois, I had been anxiously awaiting going to happy hour at Bar Japonais for the first time. Unfortunately, my experience at Bar Japonais was not the same as that at Bar Chinois. To begin, I had a Japanese highball. The flavor of the highball tasted like a green apple jolly rancher which was unexpected and not my favorite. When it came time to sample the food, I was incredibly excited. Unfortunately, the portion sizes were tiny and the value was non-existent. The service was also incredibly slow and they missed parts of our order. This was a significant let down given that I frequently rave that Bar Chinois has the best happy hour in the city. The owners of Bar Japonais did not carry over the success from Bar Chinois to this restaurant.

   Service was slow. Waiting staff was overwhelmed. Food was pretty good, but long time to sit and wait when you can’t hear each other across the table.

   It’s very very noisy and super expensive but the sashimi and food were excellent

   Quality of fish - particularly salmon is quite low - service was generally poor - no 'experience' at all - food comes super quickly but almost too quickly - they want you out of there asap

   I came in from Chicago to visit my daughter. I took her and her roommate to dinner. It was last minute so many places were booked and we found Japanese opened up. And it was the most delicious food. The service was amazing. And the atmosphere was super charming. A great area to go out too

   So good. Everything we ordered was so fresh, and the restaurant was very lively and fun. Will be coming back.

   This is a hidden gem! You never think French and Japanese food would go together but it just works seamlessly! The food was DELICIOUS and the service was immaculate (Devonte was the best server I’ve had all year!). Run, don’t walk to Bar Japonais!

    Restaurant Week menu was a good representation of standard menu. Also able to take advantage of happy hour! Service was attentive but not obtrusive. Lively crowd. Great opportunity to try a new restaurant and will return.
