Beggar's Banquet has been making folks in East Lansing, Michigan beg for more since 1973. Not that the servings are small, but because you just don't want to stop experiencing one delicious menu item after another. It actually got its name from the proprietor's favorite Rolling Stones album that was released in 1968. The American cuisine at Beggar's Banquet is full of comfort food but with an elegant twist here and there. Options are plenty on the lunch menu, dinner menu, daily brunch menu and Sunday brunch menu. One notable item is the smoked salmon cake platter. The salmon is house-smoked then formed into three New England-style cakes, each with a different flavoring for variety that goes beyond anything you have ever had. In addition to American items, you'll also adore the "south of the border"options that Beggar's Banquet has to offer.

                                                                    It has been years since I have been to Beggar's. The waitress was new and not informed but pleasant. The food was not good. Ordered the London Broil - medium, came well done. Brussel sprouts were mushy, potatoes had weird dairy substance. The dessert was $9 for a small bell jar of creme brulee about 1/3 of a cup. The chocolate mousse was more generous but tasted like cooktop chocolate pudding. It was a Sunday night so maybe understaffed; it was pretty empty there. We don't go out to dinner very often and try to support non chain restaurants. Guessing they make most of their money from drinks on other nights. Probably won't be back-disappointing.

                                                                    The beer was good but the fries were too salty, the fish was greasy, the burger was overcooked. I chalk it up to a midweek dinner during the summer at a college town restaurant.

                                                                    My visit here was much less than I expected! The restaurant was very old feeling. There were very few people there. The service was good since we were the only people in the room we were seated right away and drinks were served quick. The duck was not good at all! My husband who never gets to order duck frequently was excited to order it, but disappointed after it came. I had a burger which I was very happy with. I wouldn’t go back when visiting here again.

                                                                    There was a large party being served while we were there but not a large staff. Service was friendly but spotty. My medium rare burger was well done but I didn’t complain about it because it wouldn’t have been worth sending back and it was still edible. This is not generally the case at Beggars. I doubt they are prepared for a late Sunday afternoon crowd.
