Service was very slow, not just by wait staff, but the bar and kitchen. Over 15 minutes to put in an order another 20 minutes to get drinks, which actually were delivered after the soup was served. Then main entree arrived 20 minutes after the soup was finished and it was Luke warm, certainly not hot - like it had been sitting for quite awhile. Overall, over an hour til served dinner. We did not order desert, as we didn’t want to wait for that.

I can’t remember the name of our waiter (though I did catch that he’s been happily married for 38 years, which honestly seems like a fun fact worth celebrating), but I do know this: he was an absolute gem. In a restaurant bustling with energy and dishes flying out left and right, he still managed to be attentive, friendly, and downright charming. He was the kind of waiter who made you feel like you were his top priority, even if he was running circles around the room. It takes real skill to juggle a packed section while keeping it all lighthearted and personable—and he nailed it. Truly, I wish I could remember his name so I could thank him properly! Special shoutout to the support staff as well, who were all equally lovely. And then there was the young lady at the omelette station. She deserves a medal, because when I made the rookie mistake of misnaming a cheese (don’t ask, it’s embarrassing), she handled it with grace, professionalism, and zero judgment. She smiled, allowed my friend to correct me, and made sure I didn’t feel like a cheese amateur/idiot. When I later returned for my second egg (yes, I did come back for more), she didn’t bat an eye. No judgment, just kindness and excellent service. In short: if you're looking for a place with not only great food but also a team of kind, funny, and incredibly efficient staff, this is it. It’s not every day you encounter a restaurant where the service is as delightful as the meal itself. Can’t wait to come back—and next time, I’ll get the cheese right, I promise!

Had to wait 15 minutes after reservation time to be seated. Very noisy and crowded. Waiter needed to be reminded for 3 separate requests, 1 food prep request was not fulfilled, and needed to request a water refill. Food itself was very good (lodge burger and spicy Italian pizza). Wait time for food was OK.

Food and service have both gone downhill since Blackwall Barn opened. The space is lovely though. The pastry on the chicken pot pie was so crunchy it was hard to even eat it. Disapointkng.

We were excited to try someplace new in Columbia, but we left very disappointed. We ordered the chef special which was salmon oscar on a bed of grits (polenta). The food came to us slightly warm with pockets of cold. We spoke with the waiter who in turn had us speak with the manager. She had our dish redone and this time came out hot. There was a wait before we received our food the second time around. It was tasty but I can never understand why food does not come out hot the first time around. As for the service our waiter seemed attentive at the beginning but throughout the evening we had to look around to find him to ask for water and additional drinks. Slow to have used dishes removed from our table. We had to keep pushing them to the side. I am not sure we will return.

This place needs to get with the times. Why are they offering a cash option to lower my bill. If credit card charges are too expensive, bake that into the cost of the food. Apps came out before our drinks. I got the chicken sandwich and fries were so cold! I want this place to be good and maybe with the competition around them they will get better. In the meantime I’m taking a break. Definitely not worth the expense.

I bought my boyfriend for his birthday and he loved it! Though it was not our first time, going to Blackwall Barn & Lodge always feels like a new experience. The servers, Tasha and Christy, were working double time with serving the floor and the bar, but they were consistent and attentive as well as just fun to interact with. The managers do not shy away from helping run food and speaking to customers. For appys, we order the fried tomatoes and a caesar salad. My bf has a tree nut allergy, and the caesar salad does come with almonds and granola, but they were apologetic and expeditious in providing a new salad without. Our entrees were EXCELLENT! We both had specials, I had the crusted lamb with mashed potatoes and veggies and he had the salmon with polenta....amazing! As it was his birthday, they no longer do the free dessert, but they offer a coupon and card for your next visit. Overall, I will be returning....with or without him LOL
