   We had to wait more than an hour for our food to be prepared, of course they apologized for it taking so long but that is it, just an apology. I had to keep trying to get the servers attention when we needed something. And the food was not that good, this was my first time having peruvian food so i had no idea what it would be like.

   Our visit to Callao last Friday, May 9th, after the lively downtown Los Altos Bubbly Stroll, turned into an unexpectedly delightful experience, largely thanks to their exceptional hospitality. Despite our group of five losing track of time and missing our original reservation, the Callao team graciously and immediately rebooked us. This flexibility and welcoming attitude, echoed in many positive online reviews praising their accommodating service, set a wonderful tone for the evening. The ambiance inside was buzzing with a warm energy, beautifully enhanced by a talented guitarist whose music created a truly lovely backdrop for our meal. We dove into a selection of appetizers and were thoroughly impressed. The leche de tigre was a vibrant and refreshing highlight, and the ceviches were incredibly fresh and flavorful, showcasing the authentic Peruvian cuisine. It was also fantastic to see and enjoy a good variety of vegetarian options, ensuring everyone in our party had delicious choices. Overall, Callao delivered a memorable evening with its combination of outstanding service, captivating ambiance, and truly delicious food. It’s clear they take pride in creating a welcoming space and serving high-quality, flavorful dishes. We’re already looking forward to our next visit!

   Food is wonderful, really good. Would go back for the food only. Super expensive which would be fine considering it’s in Los Altos but the service being that sub par was not acceptable. Waiter forgot about us, we were the first ones seated and were there for over two hours, almost last to leave due to waiting ridiculously long for them to clear dinner. Had to ask support staff twice for dessert menu.

   We had the Causa de Pollo as our appetizer; Seco de Cordero and the Arroz con Pato as our main dishes, and everything was absolutely phenomenal! We also had the Picarones and the Tres Leches as our desserts. We thoroughly enjoyed our experience and we will definitely be coming back here again! Thank you to the amazing team at Callao

    The remodel is spacious and attractive. The pisco sour and the lamb stew with beans were both pretty good. We also shared two appetizers, the leche de tigre and scallops, which we would give mixed reviews. The leche de tigre was tangy and tasty, while the scallop dish was very soupy -more like a milky-cheesy clam chowder, with tiny bay scallops. The kitchen needs some work during this shakedown period. However, it was difficult to enjoy the dinner because of the terrible live music playing. The sound system was so loud that we could not hear each other (and our table was pretty far away from the musicians, if you can call them that). The music was terrible - screeching string instruments and off-key guitar playing that seemed to be accompanied by tapes from the original (often tacky) songs. This was an amateur hour music production, and it was enough to make us avoid a return.
