Located on the fourth floor of the Hotel Puerto Valdés, in Puerta de Tierra, it has a view of the San Juan Bay and one of the most complete Argentine wine cellars locally. Its cuisine offers a wide variety of select cuts of meat, poultry and seafood that are roasted using the thousand-year-old concept of Kamado.
But what is Kamado? It is an ancient art of cooking meat that allows its flavors and textures to be unique and of an exquisite flavor for the palate. As our executive chef Paxx Caraballo describes us “cooking meat in Kamado is an art. Carnes Steakhouse offers a relaxed atmosphere for dinner. On its terrace, the visitor will be able to observe the beautiful bay of San Juan, and when there are cruise ships, the view is much more interesting.
To accompany the meats, the pairing is made with a delicious selection of Argentine wines in a cellar that includes an interesting variety.

                                                                            We decided to go for New Year’s Eve because they didn’t have a prix fixe menu. At least it wasn’t promoted anywhere, and I looked at their socials. But when we arrived, we were told that we had a choice of the “New Year’s” prix fixe menu with a set price or their regular menu, which we preferred and decided to sit down. Soon after, we were told that the chef couldn’t do the “à la carte” menu and only the prix fixe menu was available, to which we agreed since it would’ve been difficult to get another reservation at that time on New Year’s Eve and with the majority of the island without electricity. The menu included a kids option at $25, but when asked, the waiter didn’t know what it was and had to ask the chef. Only two options were available, at more than $10 more than the options for kids in the regular menu. So we made our selection and tried to make the best of the evening. The menu included a bottle of sparkling wine, which we had to ask for since we weren’t offered any drinks after our first courses we brought. Sadly, it was at room temperature and not enjoyable. The first course was only one dish, which we thought had to be shared. Shortly after, the same dish was brought, but this time it was two dishes, which we told the waiter that we had already received one, so she took away one dish and left the other. Only one course for the child menu, by the way. So they brought our kid’s dish, which she didn’t like, and when asked for the other option given for the kids menu, we were told that it wasn’t available because the fryer hadn’t even been turned on. At that point, it was obvious that everything in the evening was being improvised and hadn’t been organized whatsoever. When we asked for the check, the full price for the kids menu was being charged, expecting it included other dishes because it was more than double the price on the regular menu. It definitely ruined the evening and obviously won’t be returning.

                                                                            Excellent meal and service! Would return! Seated our family of 10 and a small private room, perfect for our party. Steak was amazing. All the food was delicious! Staff went above and beyond.

                                                                            Yani took care of my wife and me for our birthdays, and she was wonderful. We got our reservation on Open Table, but there was plenty of seating when we arrived. We went on a Thursday, so we excepted it to be a bit busier, but wasn’t. This place is a hidden gem, so that may be why there wasn’t a big crowd. I don’t expect it to be slow much longer. The ambiance was low lit and smooth, with soft music playing in the background. Great for an intimate date night. Yani greeted us with a complimentary appetizer. She recommended this wine, which was nice. We got the ribeye steak which was to die for. Buttery smooth and juicy. Best I’ve had in a long time. The whipped mashed potatoes, and vegetable were perfect as well. I’d recommend this place to anyone visiting Puerto Rico, but take a look at the prices before you come. 9.5/10

                                                                            After reading mixed reviews, my husband and I tried Carnes on a Sunday evening. We are so glad we did. The food was out of this world, and the server was very attentive. Would highly recommend!

                                                                            The server kept rushing us. Tried to take our plates 4 times. There were only two other people in the restaurant all night. Food and ambiance was great. The menu suggests having an Aperol Spritzer. They did not even have Aperol!

                                                                            Only one server for the whole restaurant on a busy night. Server was also the bartender. Long waits to get our order taken and even longer waits to get our drinks and water. The experience did not match the price. Some sides never arrived and those that did were overly salty and un-edible. The meat, however was perfect.
