COOKING WITH FIRE, SOUTH TEXAS STYLE Carriqui celebrates the South Texas tradition of drawing flavor from fire. Inspired by the flight path of our namesake bird, our menus feature regional favorites from the Rio Grande Valley, Texas coast, and the Hill Country. Nearly every dish is touched by the glowing embers of our custom-forged pits, smoker, or grill, all fueled by native wood.                                                                                                                                       Food was excellent, we dined in the back seating area and because it is all stone/glass it made it pretty loud even with the room half full. The design of the restaurant is very photogenic and our experience with the management was that they were very professional. Unfortunately, our server seemed a bit lost and our order took 1h to get out (behind other tables seated after us). My drink took over a half hour to get to me. I think perhaps if we were seated in another area we may have had a better experience.

                                                                                                                                      Host and bartender were extremely knowledgeable and enlightening in conversation. The host provided us with a wealth of information about the history of the building and was friendly and well spoken. Our bartender was just as friendly and attentive. He knew his craft well and provided us with good recommendations for libations and fare. We only had appetizers and drinks but they did not disappoint. The bean and cheese nachos were excellent, esp when our bartender suggested the spicy avocado cream sauce as an accompaniment. It definitely had a little kick, but it was not overpowering. The chicken in the quesadillas was probably some of the best grilled chicken I have ever eaten. I will be back to try the chicken on its own! My BF said the house margarita on the rocks was great (he had two) and I liked the sangria, but I will admit, I did not order a second. It was a bit bland, however, I appreciate that they made it fresh. The atmosphere is lively and the building has been beautifully restored and renovated to modern standards, but still keeps the warm aesthetics of its former days as the Liberty Bar.
