Central Park Bistro is a 100 seat contemporary restaurant in downtown San Mateo featuring fresh seasonal American cuisine by Chef Ricardo Garcia, in the $15-$45 range. We offer a carefully chosen eclectic Wine Spectator award-winning wine list. Central Park Bistro is an affordable sophisticated, fun dining experience. Relax and unwind with a house specialty cocktail at our wonderful Martini Bar. We also have several intimate private dining rooms perfect for that corporate presentation business meeting, wedding rehearsal dinner,
retirement/anniversary dinner, or any special function you may have in mind. Check out our private wine cellar room which seats up to 8 people for that extra special dining experience.

Historically they have been very good - and it was New Year's Eve - so fixed menu and it was very crowded as was every other restaurant - but we asked for a substitution (which they did not need to offer and they should not have) because the substitution was very inferior - seemed like some canned ingredients and not well thought through - should have just pointed us to something else (again, usually very good). The biggest issue I had (and it was only by chance that I caught it) was that I was charged double the regular tax rate - so almost 20% - when I pointed it out, they corrected it but it almost felt like they were surprised that I caught it - I would gladly have left that extra amount as a service tip (I did tip 20%) but taxes in restaurant software are programmed so it had to be a systematic thing - doesn't randomly change a 9.25% tax rate -so in general if you go here, the food is really good but check your bill and make sure the charges are appropriate. And if you ask for a substitution, make sure it seems like they are doing something for you that is elsewhere on the menu and not made up on the fly.

Food is good, but check your bill carefully. We were double charged the sales tax last night and no explanation was given when we brought it to the server’s attention. Have heard stories from others who have been overcharged - is this a pattern?

Lovely dinner on Christmas Eve. We had two service dogs with our party and our table was perfect and out of the way of other diners. I would recommend this restaurant for lunch or dinner!

It's a wonderful neighborhood restaurant for the food, staff and ambience. It's pretty expensive but well worth it! I go there frequently for lunch and dinner.

Halibut fish extremely overcooked. Service wasn’t great, very inexperienced and not friendly. Overcharged for 7 bottles of sparking water.

Great restaurant., never disappoints. From their appetizers to main dishes to desserts, they are on point. Crab cakes, fried calamari: delicious. skirt steak, salmon and other dishes., a must . GREAT SERVICE!!
