The Charcoal Steak House is an independent local steakhouse serving the Waterloo region community for over 65 years. Enjoy AAA Steaks, richly marbled wagyu, slow roasted prime rib, fresh seafood, mouth-watering pig tails, legendary smoked ribs and more. At lunch we feature an extensive menu with burgers, sandwiches, bowls and healthy salad choices.

Sundays are made for Brunch from 9:00am - 1:00pm.

Our Martinis Bar with summer patio offers the full Steak House menu or light meals in a more casual setting. Enjoy appetizers, a full meal, 20 beers on tap and beautiful outdoor seating area in summer.

We’ve been to charcoal several times over the years. Went last night for my son’s bday. Smbience was great. Server was great. Food quality has diminished drastically since last year. Not sure if there’s a new chef but we were disappointed. Not sure if we will return.

Overall the food was good and server was nice. We loved the app and mains but overall the service felt a little more like a Kelsey’s or a more casual keg experience. We got the expensive Waygu steak / peppercorn steak and would’ve expected a little more premium service. She was managing many tables and we had a few long waits through out the dinner. TBH although great, the pricy Waygu steak was a tad on the colder side.

My 2 best friends and I were there to celebrate our Christmas luncheon early. Our server was Jennifer B., and she was absolutely wonderful. We never once felt rushed and Jennifer helped us with our selections. The food was absolutely delicious (2 pad Thai’s and 1 Cobb salad). We sat in the heated patio area which was warmer than inside. The atmosphere was perfect for our special occasion.

There is no better place to go for breakfast on the weekend The ambience makes it so special on the covered patio. The service is beyond superb. Everyone is always so friendly, welcoming and efficient. The price of the quality food is not much more than the regular greasy breakfast diners in town. It’s not what people expect with a buffet. The eggs Benedict and omelettes are fairly priced. Best orange juice in town as well as refillable coffee. It’s just an amazing well kept secret to dine for breakfast at the Charcoal.

Great food and great ambience. Loved the petite beef Wellington appetizer and filet mignon steak.
