Chez Delmo first opened in 1934. Today, the restaurant remains in hommage to the original owners Delisle and Morissette (Delmo) and continues to be a favourite for regulars and visitors alike.
Just minutes away from the Notre Dame Basilica in the Old Port, Chez Delmo continues to serve fresh and premium quality seafood prepared in a traditional French style combined with a modern flair. The house specialty is the Dover Sole meunière and the classic tomato cream soup which have been virtually unchanged for decades.

This restaurant, tucked away from the bustling streets, offered us a warm welcome as the owner kindly took our coats. Our table, marked by our surname, set a charming tone for the evening. The staff was incredibly attentive, effortlessly switching between English and French to make our evening special. The food speaks for itself, requiring no embellishments to hide flaws. For instance, the lobster bisque featured delightful, recognizable chunks of lobster instead of being overloaded with cream. The dover sole, walleye, shrimp, and lobster were cooked to perfection. Our waiter provided levity and anticipated our needs, he effortlessly recommended wine pairings. Later, we discovered that his father was the owner. With such attentive and friendly service, we truly felt as though we were enjoying a fine dinner at a dear friend’s house. The entire evening was perfect, and I eagerly look forward to returning again and again!

Starters and main courses very good. Simply prepared fish of excellent quality. Very attentive wait staff. The dessert menu could use a few more innovative additions. Reasonable value for the cost but expect to spend about $100 per person at a minimum.

I took my mother and a friend to dinner at Chez Delmo for my mother’s birthday. The food was delicious and the staff were incredibly kind and thoughtful to my mother. They really helped me make the day special for her. I highly recommend this place ! Some people thought their prices were high but certainly not by Toronto standards and I thought there was great value for the money spent.

We were greeted at the door upon our arrival by the owner of the restaurant who was friendly and welcomed us upon our arrival. The menu had a fabulous variety of foods with a lot of seafood, which we were interested in. The waiter came and took our drink order and we found the drinks to be exceptional. Fabulous bartender there. I had an excellent old-fashioned, one of the best I’ve ever had and my wife had a very good gin tonic. We began our meals with clam chowder and the famous tomato soup which lived up to its reputation. My wife ordered the lobster roll, which was exceptional with a very generous amount of tasty fresh lobster. I had the seafood pasta, which was just extraordinary. I cannot tell you how much fresh seafood was mixed in with the homemade pasta. The value for the food we received was excellent and overall, I would recommend this restaurant to anybody who is looking for a very comfortable atmosphere with very efficient and friendly staff in old Montreal. Overall, I’d give this a solid five star.

Chez Delmo has delicious seafood and the service is great. Our server was the son of the owner who I believe still does the cooking. They were both so personable and friendly. The crab creole was phenomenal and my sister enjoyed her fish and chips. The lobster bisque was fantastic, too. We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner at Chez Delmo. I highly recommend this restaurant.
