Bienvenue Chez Max!

Savory aromas drift from the kitchen as one enters the front door, giving a hint of culinary delights to come. The casual and comfortable, yet elegant interior of the restaurant is warm and inviting. A large stone fireplace adorns a corner in the main dining room, casting a soft glow around the room.

We are Richmond’s premier French dining experience. Our menu is a collection of dishes cultivated by a Master French chef. We offer an array of fine wines from around the world, 23 are poured by the glass. Our mixologist boasts an impressive range of signature crafted cocktails and guest favorites.

As we are often fully seated on Fridays and Saturdays, we can only hold a reservation for 15 minutes without advanced notice. We allocate 2 hours for parties of 2 to 5, 2 ½ hours for parties of 6 or more.

On a cold winter evening, dining at Chez Max is the perfect way to relax and enjoy very special cuisine and perfect service in a lovely setting. I ordered the salmon with crab entree and key lime pie for dessert, both of which were superb! The six of us agreed we will be returning soon! Elizabeth

My second time at this amazing restaurant and twice now, it has not disappointed me. A cold Sunday evening makes for a far more relaxing dinning experience and one can’t overlook the half price on bottles of some of the finest wines. I begrudgingly decided to have the farm raised venison from all places, New Zealand and Boy! Was it the best! Oliver, the waiter was terrific and so were the other staff members. The owner was always pleasant. I highly recommend Chez Mex for any occasion. Well worth it.

We have never had a bad experience at Chex Max. We have celebrated so many special occasions at this restaurant! I love the french chalet vibe. The food is always fresh and incredibly good. Brian- the owner makes everyone feel at home. Roland-has been the server extraordinaire for as long as I can remember. Skip-he is an incredible Chef. I could go on and on. Perfect date night, special occasion visit or if you just want a wonderful dinner experience.

The filet is perfectly prepared and always outstanding. All of the sides are delicious and plentiful. Service is outstanding. A lovely spot for a quiet dinner or large celebration.

Wonderful experience, our first but not last time there! Food was amazing and generous portions. Staff attentive but not smothering, owners stopped by to chat with us. Highly recomnended.

Complimentary champagne for our birthdays was nice (but would’ve liked another option if that wasn’t our “thing”), food came out fast. We ordered lamb and the steak. Cooked per request-lamb was good and steak was ok-the peppercorn sauce was overpowering. The highlights of the meal were the mashed potatoes and crème brûlée-which is not what should’ve been the highlight for such an expensive meal. Our waiter and the waitstaff were very attentive-but you spend this kind of money for an overall experience. We won’t be back considering we have several places that knock this out of the running. So, if you are looking for upscale dining overall experience -look elsewhere. They did have a couple that were “regulars” so maybe this is the place for older couples who are used to their experience.

Our first experience dining at Chez Max the evening of January 5 was excellent in every way: ambiance, food, service…everything to celebrate our 50th anniversary, complete with a glass of “bubbly” after we were seated at the table closest to the fireplace on this extremely cold evening. We are looking forward to returning in the near future!
