Cooks & Soldiers brings the cuisine and cultural experience of Spain’s Basque region to the flourishing West Midtown area. The menu is divided into “pintxos tradicionales,” or tapas-like snacks served atop toasted bread; “pinxtos especiales,” or Basque-inspired small plates; “asador” including a variety of wood-grilled fish, meats and vegetables; and a selection of unique and modern desserts. Behind the bar, Cooks & Soldiers offers guests an extensive collection of Basque and Spanish wines, txakoli and ciders, in addition to craft beer and signature cocktails. The cocktail list places a heavy emphasis on gin, offering a seasonal selection of house-infused tonics blended into gin tonics and other popular libations.

We had things added to our order because the waitress felt we didn’t order enough for the whole table, which was not her call to make. We had a red drink spilled on a white jacket (which we also got charged for even though we obviously couldn’t drink it) and items added to our bill that we didn’t order and never showed up. We did pay for some of the extra items our waitress added “so there would be enough for both sides of the table” because we ate them, but not even bringing them was where our line was. As for the bar and the food, fantastic as always. The Bikini is my absolute favorite, with the Sunchokes coming in hot as second best item. Highly recommend, just make it clear to your “guide” (what our waitress kept calling herself) that you only want what you order, and if you want a second helping you will order a second helping.

This was such an amazing experience. This was our first time at Cooks & Soldiers and it automatically went straight to our top five favorite restaurants in Atlanta. The service was amazing, restaurant was beautiful, and the flavor profiles of each dish was so amazingly orchestrated. 5 star expeirence!!!

The food was outstanding-everything we had was amazing. The service stood out- our server Joe went above and beyond what great service looks like. Best dinner I’ve had in months. Thanks Joe!

I’ve heard great things about Cooks and Soldiers for years but finally tried it last night. Making a reservation was easy, but the seating arrangement for six was awkward, with four in the middle and one on each end, making conversation difficult. The chairs were poorly maintained, with splintered edges that ruined my new stockings. I had to sit on a cloth napkin to prevent further damage. The food was overly greasy and excessively salty, with little complexity. It was “fine” but not particularly good. The cocktails, however, were excellent and the best part of the night. Service was disorganized. Four of us wanted the “experience” menu, but the other two preferred à la carte. We were told the entire table had to order the same, which was frustrating and not mentioned on the menu. Drinks were delayed, silverware was removed and not replaced, and it was nearly impossible to get a server’s attention when needed. The noise level was unbearable. Music drowned out the server explaining specials, and we had to shout to hear each other, making the experience stressful rather than enjoyable. Cooks and Soldiers feels like one of those overhyped, overpriced restaurants. I won’t be returning and regret inviting my guests there.
