   We came on a busy Easter Sunday night, obviously a long and hectic night for the staff at copra. Our server Niel did great, very personable and displayed quick and confident thinking on his feet when the biryani was sold out. He recommended the dosa as a substitute and was spot on.    Lovely ambiance , a little noisy though! The food was superb! Tasty, not too spicy and the flavor combinations were fabulous. Loved the spin and presentation on traditional South Indian cuisine. Service was great with very attentive, friendly and efficient staff. Will definitely go back.

   Wow. Some really of the best food I have had EVER. The complexity of textures, flavors, heat and even temperatures are mind blowing, with flavors extending far beyond the first bite. Great service, beautiful decor. Wow.

   I lived and worked in India for years and have eaten at many glorious south Indian restaurants highbrow and low all over the world. So I was very excited to check out Copra during SF restaurant week and its special prix fixe menu. While beautiful to look at, the food was an extremely disappointing experience. No dish served stood out in any way - boring sambal, ordinary dal, flavorless okra. I have eaten better, more flavorful food in mini-malls in the South Bay or Kirkland WA or from street vendors. If you are going to charge $75 for a $20 thali you better make sure you hit it out of the park and, sadly, they didn’t even come close. Even the chai was undrinkable and tasted bitter and burned. The waitstaff also couldn’t be bothered to explain to diners who might not know quite what to do with so many condiments and small soupy dishes. The entire experience made me miss Dosa, which used to inhabit this previously lovely space, all that much more. We won’t be back.

   The bar has been set high by Chef Sreejith Gopinathan. For those of Indian origin, the concept of a full spread for our respective new years and festivals is something we typically miss unless we cook it ourselves. Well, he delivered and more with his special day Vishu sadya and something to not be missed the next time it comes around a year from now. The 30+ item spread was delicately spiced, bursting with flavor and all vegetarian with an abundance of coconut based dishes celebrating the state of Kerala. As I told him, he set the bar so high that our expectation is to have more of these events.

    A solid Indian restaurant in San Francisco! The food was flavorful and satisfying - we especially enjoyed the chicken biryani, Mysore masala dosa, fried chicken, shrimp, etc. The service was friendly, and the atmosphere was comfortable for both a casual meal and a night out. It’s one of the best Indian spot we’ve been to in SF.
