Open since October of 1990, The Dakota has been a pioneer in the culinary industry on the Northshore of Lake Pontchartrain. Their cuisine is influenced by the flavorful Creole cuisine, with Contemporary Louisiana. Other influences include the Southwest, California, and Asia using fresh local and seasonal ingredients.
The carefully selected wines pay tribute to the well crafted wines of North America while offering many of the traditional Old World styles of Europe.
In October of 2023, The Dakota moved to its new location in Historic Downtown Covington...just a block from the iconic Southern Hotel.
The Dakota continues to set the mark for what people look for when they dine – well crafted food, detail-oriented service, plush surroundings, and genuine hospitality.

                                                                    With Del Porto just steps away I’m not sure why anyone would dine at Dakota. I cannot say the food was bad because it wasn’t, but it wasn’t an experience that was worth the money. The food was really bland and the overall experience is just so so. The shining star was our waiter. He deserves to be recognized. Unless someone else pays I won’t be returning soon and even if someone else offers to pay I’m pretty sure I’ll recommend that we go somewhere else. Sad to see because I won’t to see them succeed.

                                                                    Great place for fine dining. We went for New Year's Eve dining. Everything was great. Highly recommend if you're in the Covington, Louisiana area.

                                                                    As always, exceptional food and service. The perfect place to celebrate New Year’s Eve. I only wish they had Sunday brunch as well. St Tammany need an exceptional brunch.

                                                                    Much better venue since their move, although parking not quite as convenient as before. We were unaware of the Prix Fixe menu for NYE, and did not see it on the website. While the food was excellent, it was definitely overpriced and a slightly greater selection would have been nice. Wine list also needs flushing out; not enough variety or selections. Waitstaff is good, but a bit businesslike; it's ok to be warm and fuzzy even if you're working at an upscale restaurant!

                                                                    Best food ever! Delicious, savory dishes cooked just right. Delivery of food is superb. Definitely feel pampered when you dine here! Great service, great food, great atmosphere!

                                                                    Extraordinary long time between courses- about an hour. 2 of the 4 entrees were room temperature- didn’t order steak tar-tar - server assured me a new filet would be prepared instead manager arrives at the table with the same filet that was placed under a warmer and still room temperature. At this point the mood was subdued and I was very hungry so I just ate it. Golden Corral style. The Server apologized profusely (not taking it out on her tip at Christmas) They gave the table of 4 free dessert. Which was good but overall I think it’s over priced food and drinks for the experience- one and done for us too many other fine dining restaurants in the area to settle for substandard

                                                                    We sat in the Boston room which we loved because it was more intimate. Waited 30 minutes for the first drink to arrive. 45 minutes later, the appetizers were finally served. It was close to an hour later when the tiny overcooked filet arrived. I had scallops which were good, but not fantastic as they usually are. The waiter offered us dessert. When we asked how long THAT would take???? he laughingly assured us it would be awhile. We went to another restaurant for dessert and after dinner drinks. This was my third trip to Dakotas, chosen for our anniversary because we have enjoyed it thoroughly in the past. It is WAY too expensive to tolerate a night like this one.

                                                                    The ambiance is very good and so was the food. Variety on the menu was good and surprised there was only 1 soup and 1 seafood entre as specials. Service is impeccable and not only with the server at our table. If you passed any server or employee going to the restroom or when leaving they addressed you and thanked you for being there. A truly enjoyable evening.
