Izakaya Den is Denver’s popular Japanese gastropub, modeled after the lively after hours establishments found throughout Japan. The restaurant is located on South Pearl Street and is the second restaurant of the Kizaki brothers, founders and owners of Sushi Den.



The menu is arranged in a tapas style, serving traditional Japanese small plates along with dishes infused with international flavors and textures. The more traditional Japanese offerings include sashimi and nigiri, sourced from daily fish shipments from around the globe, along with dumplings and noodle dishes. The global cuisine experiments with a bevy of different flavors including unique items such as Grilled Panzanella Salad (jumbo lump crab, toasted focaccia, local goat cheese, pistachios, plum wine vinaigrette), Kobe Beef Sliders (seared foie gras, pomme frittes). A gluten-free menu is also available along with a popular weekday happy hour from 5 to 6:30 pm.

                                                    I made reservations for our anniversary 3 weeks in advance!!! I also was very clear with additional notes as to want to either sit at a table where I can sit next to my wife or at the sushi bar. I do not like sitting across from her ever! We arrive and they asked if we wanted to sit at the cocktail bar. I don't like sitting at the cocktail bar. So then they said that's ok they have a 4 top for us and to follow them. They put us at a 2 top table where we had to sit ACROSS from each other. There was 2 four tops on either side of us. We were there for 1.5hrs eating and drinking and those 2 tables remained empty the entire time along with several other 4 top tables. Needless to say I'm furious!!! What kind of restaurant doesn't cater to their customers request when reservations were made well in advance??? The service was fantastic and the food was good. My wife and I both decided that we get better sushi and sashimi in Fort Collins at our favorite sushi restaurant.

                                                    It had been a few years since we’d been to ID, and we won’t be back. The dishes were subpar, some of the nigiri was especially fishy, and the service was painfully slow - over two hours for a party of two. Snobby to say, but paper menus at the table should have been the tip off that things had changed, and not for the better. What a let down.
