Descanso is a modern taqueria in that we celebrate authentic Mexican flavors and recipes executed in a lively setting that brings in the flavors, smells, sounds and energy of a busy Mexican town.

Types of Dining:

PLANCHA
At a Plancha Table, you will receive an intimate experience with our Planchero Chefs. This is a multi-course menu where your meal is cooked in front of you at your table! Please go to our DESCANSO - LOS ANGELES - PLANCHA DINING Open Table page to make a reservation.

STANDARD DINING

TACO BAR
The Taco Bar (Counter) is an a la carte version of the Plancha Experience where one of our chefs cooks in front of you at a counter top.

So glad this restaurant is here. I have always loved the space, it’s in the old Marie Calendars on Wilshire. We went for lunch during Restaurant Week LA and we were able to try out a bunch of dishes. Very tasty, especially loved the street corn app. Our Mexibol bowls were amazing. Didn’t have any cocktails but they have a huge bar so I bet they make a good drink. It just officially opened on the 23rd so this was their second day but the service was amazing. We will go back! Beautiful room and vibe.

This felt like an expense account restaurant. The food is good, I'm not sure it's exceptional. We had the absolute worst waiter, I'm not one to exaggerate .It was like they had never been to anything more than fast food. FYI, appetizers come before mains. These prices should have better service. You are looking at $12-20 for ONE taco, with tax and tip. They have a number of market price items but do not give the waiter that info, so you have to wait 10 minutes to find out how much something costs. The space is so nice, too bad I'm not looking to go back

First off, we truly apologize for your service experience on your visit last week. We are newly opened and working out some kinks, but that is no excuse for some of the service issues you experienced. We followed up via email as we would like to make this right for you.

Don’t expect traditional Mexican cuisine. Most dishes are heavy with cream sauces and cheese. I won’t go back.

With the restaurant not being fully opened yet, this restaurant has a lot of potential. The flavor of the food is immaculate. The ambiance of the restaurant is stellar. The Plancha chef, Gavin, is an amazing chef. The service can be improved on—my group noted that our server, Pat, delayed service or rushed service (delay in taking orders, rushed to take food plates away while the food is still in front of us) Pat is a nice guy but I think he get nervous with big groups & just needs more time but he’s nice Note: any group that is larger than 6, will have a mandatory 20% gratuity. Would I come back? Yes, if I am in the area.

Came with my boyfriend for New Year’s Eve and had such a great time! 10/10 recommend and will absolutely be coming back!

Incredible NYE at Descanso. From the moment we walked in we were made to feel welcome and, as we arrived early for our reservation, we sat at the bar for a pre dinner cocktail. We didn’t feel rushed to finish these drinks and it set a great tone for the rest of the evening. I’m very fussy with cocktails and pleased to say the 2 types of margaritas I tried were incredible! Highly recommend the spicy one! We ordered chips and guacamole and fish tacos appetizers. For entrees, we went for the steak quesadillas, short rib estofado and steak alambra. Desserts (yes, we went the full 3 courses!) we chose the cheesecake and mango crème brulee (highly recommend!). Everything we ordered was delicious! The building itself is stunning. Such beautiful interiors and a truly great addition to the area. We’ll definitely be back (a lot!) and can’t wait to try the Plancha grill!

I believe this restaurant opened not too long ago, but the waitress or waiter I didn’t know which it was had a lot to learn, they never really told us their name, never came back to take the order until we ask if we could place an order and it took forever to get four simple drinks. The food was so so. I had the quesadillas which were really small and the flavor wasn’t the greatest and for the amount of food you got, it’s definitely overpriced. Then again, I think that’s all of California.

This is a lovely big space with lots of potential. The food doesnt quite meet that potential. A carne asada main course was a little tough and underseasoned. Parking was $5 even with validation.
