Very nice modern pub in Billericay. Tasty food, varied menu & polite friendly service. Great mid week deals too!

THE food here is really nice cannot fault it at all but the service and time we had to wait for it was ridiculous 5.30 table booked well in advance was seated until near on 6 due to table not being ready once was seated and finally had our order taken it took over an hour for it to arrive so not eating until gone 7 when booked at 5.30 is not really on!!! We then had dessert which was beautiful and paid for the bill as to which the waitress didn't give us our change back and just turned round and said oh did u want your change back? Which was rude in my opinion cause then she kicked us straight of the table as they had another booking!!! I would come back again to try but maybe not a Saturday as the gluten free menu was brilliant for my daughter and she loved it as the food was really nice but if this happened again I wouldn't return for the 3rd time so I advise don't come here if you are in a rush!!!

Four out of my five party members were disappointed with the choice of food for lunchtime. I had eaten at the Duke of York in the evening a couple of times before and was pleased with the choice. I recommended it to my friends and I am sorry to say all but one were disappointed. We are unlikely to visit again.

A lovely meal served by very helpful friendly staff. My daughter has a milk allergy and staff were very helpful in informing her of foods without milk or those which were possible to cook without it.

First time in your pub. The starter was brought to us but the waiter dropped a tomato on my friends clothing. My friend and I order a mini dessert with coffee, we got our drinks but the coffee was luke warm but we all waited a very long time for our food. Our partners ordered a normal dessert as well. Called the waitress over and told her. We had the manager come over as well to say the chefs have gone to a bar (Reids) in Billericay and forgot to do our desserts. We managed to get the desserts but it wasn't a good first impression.

Pleased to be able to get a table the day before. The place was very busy and service was a bit slow but worth it for freshly cooked food which was lovely.

Lunch by the open fireside was good. Service was slow though. Overun with children running around, dinner may be abetter option. Food was of a good standard waitresses were pleasant and apologetic.

Firstly the waitress gave away our table to someone else, but that wasn't a problem as it wasn't very busy. Then we waited ages for the food. When it eventually arrived, the food was wrong... I had ordered haddock and chips, and meal they brought up was ham egg and chips. The waitress didn't speak very good english.... Waited ages again for the food. When it arrived the batter on the fish was very brown. Then when the bill came up, they had left ham egg and chips as one of the meals. The bill was £41.85... so as the service and food was so bad we said to the waitress to put £21 from each card. The waitress who didn't speak very good english then proceeded to walk away with the card machine and my friends credit card.... My friend went after her, then another waitress came to her assistance. The first waitress said that the card machine hadn't produced a receipt for the contactless, but she hadn't asked if we wanted to pay contact less. I then paid with my card. I filled out a feedback card before we left. I asked at the bar if the manager was in, and asked them to make sure she got the feedback form. My email address was on the form, but not heard anything from the restaurant. Wont be going back in a hurry. Shame as it used to me nice in there. I couldn't understand if the mistakes couldn't have happened due to them being really busy, but it wasn't busy at all.

I don't ever leave a bad review but had to this time. The service was appallingly slow, the scruffy waiter wore muddy trainers and one of the waitresses seemed drunk. We asked for a wine cooler twice and eventually what can only be described as a plastic bag containing ice was delivered. The tiny candle wasn't lit despite asking twice, the table was left a disaster between each course and the food was less than mediocre with a grey mini corn in my unappealingly bland Thai tofu curry. The only redeeming factor was an apology from a waitress (blaming 2 broken fryers for the delay) and a free dessert each which didn't make up for spending over £80 for four basic meals which took 40 minutes and were less interesting than a frozen TV dinner.

We had a lovely meal at the Duke of York. The menu was great even though it was over the Christmas period. Starters lovely. Waited a little while for our main course but it was worth the wait. A little cold in the restaurant.
