Located just beyond the West Loop’s famed “restaurant row,” El Che Steakhouse & Bar is Chicago's go-to destination for steak, seafood, and live-fire cooking. The restaurant is modeled after Executive Chef/Partner John Manion’s fascination with Argentinean asados: traditional backyard barbecues surrounding the flame. A 12-foot custom-built grill serves as the centerpiece for this downtown asado which embraces South American-tinged meats, seasonal vegetables, fresh seafood, and of course, steak. The hearth also serves as the heart of the restaurant’s experiences such as dining at the Hearth Table.


Join us for happy hour at our cocktail bar, featuring signature cocktails and fiery bar bites or indulge in a glass of wine from the country’s only South American wine list. No matter what you choose, El Che brings the heat seven nights a week.

                                    I went with my fiancée’s to celebrate our birthdays. It was a great spot for a date night. Nice ambiance, dim lighting although it could get a bit loud at times. The service was beyond superb. They went above and beyond. Even gave each of us a free ice cream desert. The charred broccolini, beef fat fries and empanadas were excellent. The mocktails were just ok. However, the steak left more to be desired. The tomahawk was more than enough for the two of us. It was cooked perfectly but the taste wasn’t what I expected. For a $250 steak, I expected the taste would hit me in the mouth and be full of flavor, but it didn’t.

                                    "The food was decent, with good flavors, but nothing particularly outstanding. The wine selection was excellent, and the ambiance was quite enjoyable. The customer service was exceptional, but overall, the experience felt overpriced for what was offered. Unfortunately, it’s not a place I’d return to."

                                    Our server and bartender were very knowledgeable and helped us choose pairings that lead to a phenomenal meal. The manager came to our table and asked for our thoughts and was very kind. The meal and experience was incredible! Will be back.

                                    Our waiter Guillermo offered a very special experience. We suggest you order the Mara de Plate dish, although it may be a little overpriced, it is genuinely one of the best dishes we have personally tried.

                                    nice venue, but different than my expectations (I imagined a large, visible open flame pit or something to that effect after visiting their website). Anyway, the service was really good overall, although there wasn't a ton of explanation, other than the large format seafood app and the 42oz Wagyu steak choices (maybe those are what they're trying to sell mostly?). The seafood platter w/ fries is pretty good, but if there is a next time, I'd just get the baked oysters and prawns with a side of fries. The lobster was pretty undercooked at the thick parts (almost raw) and the scallops were very underwhelming and basically gets "lost" in the sauce. The sauce itself is delicious and worthy of mopping up w/ an order of their bread. The bone in ribeye was very good, not overly salted and cooked to the right temperature. Side of broccolini was very good with a generous portion size. Bourbon old fashioned was very standard and "right on" without being overly sweet. Overall, a good experience and I can say I've tried it.
