Welcome to Floris at VMFA!

~ We've expanded our menu to offer a la carte offerings each day from 2:30 - 4:00pm, no reservations needed~

Our high tea menu and tea service is offered daily from 11:30 am - 2:30pm priced at $55 per guest, not inclusive of tax and service. We kindly require each guest's participation.

Floris invites you to immerse yourself in a culturally enriching tearoom experience at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. Nestled in the beautiful surroundings of the Robins Sculpture Garden, Floris is a community gathering space located in VMFA’s Pauley Center.

Take a mid-day escape and indulge in delightful pleasures for the palate, including expertly crafted blends from guest tea makers. Chef Chainey Kuykendall’s use of fresh ingredients from local vendors and importers further enhances Floris’s celebration of cultures and community.

I recently had the pleasure of experiencing afternoon tea at Floris at VFMA, and it was an absolutely delightful affair. The sweet and savory menu items were a perfect balance of flavor, and the selection of teas complemented the dishes beautifully. Each bite and sip felt like a moment to savor. The ambiance at Floris was equally impressive—the seating was both comfortable and elegant, creating an inviting atmosphere that truly enhanced the experience. The staff equally warm and inviting. A personal highlight for me was the cucumber sandwiches. They were wonderfully fresh and flavorful—so good that I found myself wishing for more! Overall, Floris exceeded my expectations, and I can’t wait to return for another memorable dining experience. Highly recommended for anyone seeking a refined and relaxing afternoon tea!

The service should have been much better. We were not well attended. Also, this traditional English tea was missing many components of what would be considered “traditional.” For example, the scones were too small and there was no clotted cream, which is traditional. Also, the tea pots were too small and not kept warm. No heaters or even tea cozies, so the tea got cold very quickly. Not at all the professional experience I was expected from the vmfa.

Lovely! Spencer was the best! He described teas very well. And went thru the entire tier for us. A lovely afternoon

I typically go for afternoon tea at least once a month and enjoy experiencing new tea rooms. Floris was the next on my list to try out. I loved the location, the building and room are beautiful. Its also great to pop over to the museum afterwards for a little walk. The tea selection was great and appreciated the waitress's suggestions. The tea stayed hot and refilled. I lean more towards a traditional tea food offering so I was a little less enthusiastic about what was served. But the items seemed thoughtful and everyone around me seemed to enjoy it. As a personal preference, I didn't find the food very enjoyable. I would come back to try a different seasonal menu however. I definitely recommend adding Floris to your list of tea rooms to visit.

This was my mom and my first experience having afternoon tea at Floris. We have had tea at many establishments in both the US and UK. While to food and ambiance was amazing, there was a couple aspects of the service that didn’t compare. We felt slightly rushed in the service as we didn’t get our first tea till after the scones and bread. Then the remainder of the food - savory and dessert came out shortly after. It would have been great to have a change of plates as well between courses. This wasn’t the biggest deal, but the server also mixed up our teas for the second course. I was able to distinguish the teas from eachother and luckily there wasn’t any allergy issues there. We enjoyed the experience very much, but just wanted to share some feedback. My mother is an etiquette coach so she is more aware of these details. Ultimately the goal of etiquette is to bring comfort and standard to experiences. These little details would all elevate the experience.

My experience was lovely. Each item on the tray was delectable (I especially enjoyed the savories), and both teas I tried (Josephine and Georgia's Peach) were perfectly brewed and served at the ideal temperature. Staff (shout out to Ellie and Emma!) was attentive but not overbearing, and I was perfectly comfortable dining alone, without any awkwardness. The ambience was casually refined, with understated table settings that let the room and experience speak for itself. It was a bit lively, but that's on me for choosing a reservation on Saturday--I would expect similar energy at any location in the area on likely the busiest day of the week. A wonderful way to spend a rainy post-holiday afternoon. Will be recommending to friends in need of decompression.

We finally made it to Floris on Christmas Day. What a perfect experience on a special occasion! The sweets and savories served with with wonderful teas was as scrumptious and delicious as it was for us in England. It doesn’t seem like a lot of food is being served since it’s in small portions. But we were completely full when we left with no need for any dinner when we got home. Everything was beautiful and perfect. I don’t even like beets. Yet I loved the delicate little beet sandwich. The scones were really tasty. And the desserts tasted even better than they looked. Adam was our server, and he did a fabulous job, as did all the servers. We will definitely be back.

The service was very good. However for the price the food should have been better. The bread for the sandwiches was a little dry and was not a fan of all the sandwich choices.
