General Public is inspired by trying to imagine what an upscale English pub would be if it had the heart of an American brasserie (and was open 11 to 11). It’s also going to signal a little bit of steakhouse, but not too much. And finally, it will look behind itself at the Black Hoof, which you will see reflected in James Santon’s menu here and there. In terms of vibe, the main floor is ‘everything’s gone green’, with lush comfortable banquette seating, warm wood, and barstools designed for long conversations over many cocktails. Upstairs you’ll find a completely different space that transports you to a peachy 80s dream. Somehow these two halves make perfect sense, and complement each other in a seamless conversation, where neither wins the argument, but you really do have to see it! See you soon!

Food was phenomenal, service from Neal and team was amazing, vibe was immaculate. Can’t wait to return. What we ordered, Endive salad - beautifully balanced and fresh Seafood tower - so fresh and amazing flavours. Only note is that the crab legs are very much whole so was a little difficult to shuck ourselves but we managed. Popcorn clams and mussels - light, crispy, delicious. Order it!! Skate wing - Cooked perfectly, surprising flavour combinations but worked so so well Surf ‘n’ turf - ugh, amazing. Perfectly cooked lobster, crispy sweetbreads, sauce was nicely seasoned and rich NY strip - nicely cooked and great flavour. Only note was that although cooked perfectly mid rare, the actual temperature of the steak was a little cold but not a huge deal English chips - best french fries ever eaten. Malt powder and beef fat, can’t go wrong Banoffee pie - very rich, could use a smidge of acidity to cut through it but still excellent Drinks are also great. Both alcoholic and non. Had too many of each to remember for this review. Overall, fantastic night. Will be back many times.

My husband and I came in for snacks and drinks last night and had an amazing time. The food was awesome. Such a great combo of flavours in every dish. I’ll be thinking about that lamb tartare until we come back. Even the fries were next level. The details are so clearly thought out in everything they do - from every dish, and how they’re presented, to the absolutely gorgeous decor. What a gem!

Had a spectacular birthday dinner at General Public. Great food, delicious drinks, and impeccable service. The bubbles and a bump are a super fun way to start a meal. We shared the lamb tartar, wedge salad, oysters rarebit, and tongue and tail pie. The tongue and tail pie was an absolute standout, I could eat a vat of that filling. Excited to go back to try more of the menu.

The service is great. The food is delicious. Be ready to spend $$$ but it will be worth it.

Beautiful space with good ambiance. I was sadly underwhelmed by the menu and taste of some of the dishes. That being said the service was wonderful as all the staff were attentive and thorough.

Service was incredible. Michelle was attentive and thorough, kind and welcoming. We loved the halibut with the creamed leeks, as well as the lemon posset for dessert. Overall it was a perfect meal with perfect drinks. We will definitely be back.
