Classic Italian food served in a warm and elegant atmosphere are the hallmarks of Giovanni’s. Since opening over 40 years ago, Giovanni’s friendly, attentive service reflects the exuberant personality and enthusiasm of the owner himself, Giovanni.

We offer a true dining experience that will make any meal a 'special occasion'. We also offer private rooms and banquet facilities for your special event needs.

“Giovanni’s on the Hill has always been the standard here for service, food and atmosphere,” says Joe Bonwich, restaurant critic for the St. Louis Post Dispatch. “It’s the whole package for high-end Italian dining: table side preparation, waiters in formal attire, a place to go for a memorable occasion. You don’t find those things much anymore.”

This review is based on the many times we have dined at Giovanni's On The Hill. Unfortunately ten days before our reservation the restaurant burned so we had to change our plans. The ambiance would be described as elegant Italian. The food has always been good, sometimes spectacular. The service has been spotty ranging from annoying to wonderful.

If you want an old school experience this is it. Very traditional food and ambiance. It was good but I do prefer more contemporary fare that is a bit more creative and light. Plan on an early evening as we were kindly asked to leave at 9:45pm as we were the only table remaining to chat after dessert.

The food was terrible. My husband got extremely sick after eating here. There were weird interactions going on We will not be back.

So this place is super old school and even though it's old fashioned, the food is truly tasty. Love how the owner and his wife are dressed and greeting guests at the door. I have been coming for more than 30 years and still love it.

Double-date dinner reservations with my husband and friends. We made early dinner reservations as we had plans after. We were greeted upon entering the restaurant and seated immediately. The restaurant was virtually empty when we arrived, but again we made early reservations. Tom was our server for the night and did an excellent job of checking on us and ensuring we had everything we needed throughout the night. The atmosphere was a bit more formal than we expected, but Tom was a good conversationalist and kept the mood light. Food was well-prepared and portions were more than adequate. We were surprised at the end of the night with complimentary shots of limoncello for the table after telling Tom of our travels to Italy in 2013 and how much we enjoyed visiting the island of Capri. Very nice touch! Food is a bit overpriced, in my opinion (I'm a big pasta lover and have been to numerous establishments here and abroad), but overall a good experience.

The ambience is great, classy. The service excellent. The best part was when Giovanni, the owner for over 40 years, cooked our meal for us by the table! The food was delicious. Especially the pesto dish made with tomato.

A very unique dining experience, with first-class service. The food is good but not outstanding. None of us was overly impressed but we all agreed that we would go back for another business meeting if we needed a quiet place to eat, drink, and talk.
