Hamrock's Restaurant is located within the Moore-McCandlish House (built 1842) in the heart of historic Fairfax City. We've been proud to serve delicious made-to-order American dishes using fresh ingredients since our establishment in 2016. We also have a wonderful hand-selected wine list to enhance your dining experience. Approximately eighty-percent of our menu is-- or can be-- gluten-free, as we use only canola and olive oil in all of our cooking. Some of our best-selling dishes are our southern fried chicken, grilled meatloaf, and crab cakes-- all which are gluten free! Other menu favorites include our deviled eggs, firecracker shrimp, Atlantic grilled salmon, roasted pork tenderloin, and penne pasta with andouille sausage & shrimp. We have beautiful year-round outdoor seating options on our wrap around porch (we have heaters!) In the warmer months, we also open our courtyard. We're also more than happy to accommodate business dinners or other special occasions in private rooms.

                                                                          So much potential, but still a work in progress. The restaurant is caught between a diner and an upscale establishment. Made reservations there for our 28yr wedding anniversary, but don’t think the hostess noted it when we arrived. Ambiance: The ambiance was good (it’s a beautiful house), but the room we ate in needs some attention. The wall paint was scuffed from tables rubbing against it, gouges in the dry wall/plaster, and fixtures were dated. Also, was initially seated in the noisiest section, but the staff happily showed us to a different room upon request. The music was loud in the reception area which was confusing given you’re in an old historic home. Service: Our server was great (knowledgeable, had recommendations, etc) Food: The food was really good. Diverse menu and daily specials. Portion sizes were average Would go back again now that my expectations will match the mood/occasion I’m going there for.

                                                                          This was my first visit here and I chose it because of its gluten free options, which they had more than average. Everything we ordered was delicious. The fire shrimp appetizer, the lobster bisque, the lamb chops, the crab cakes, the potatoes au gratin, and the star, the flourless chocolate cake. I didn’t have high expectations but was pleasantly blown away and I can’t wait to come back here the next time I am in town. The service was a little spotty and slow but like I said, I’ll be back and can’t wait to try more gf items! What a gem in the middle of Fairfax!

                                                                          I have been to Hamrocks several times before and enjoyed it but this visit was very disappointing. We went on Christmas Eve. The outside of the restaurant was very festive but the room we sat in was very bland. Plane wood tables with brown placemats. No candles, no flowers or anything suggesting it was a holiday season. We ordered the shrimp appetizer and it came out cold. One member or a party ordered a steak and instead they brought a fillet of fish. It then took 15 minutes for them to bring out her steak. By that time everyone else had long finished their dinner. The management did not offer any compensation for their mistake. I will not be going back there anytime soon.

                                                                          I like ve this restaurant. The atmosphere is quaint, being in a historic home. The food was excellent. Great gluten-free options. We had crab cakes and a salmon salad. Both were perfect.

                                                                          Pros: We were a party of five with brunch reservations. We were seated promptly at a nice table. Our server was great, didn’t rush us and was friendly. Our meals came out timely and all together. The historic house where Hamrock’s is located is quite nice and surprisingly quiet. Cons: Mimosas were totally flat, not a bubble in sight. Meal temperatures were lukewarm. Tater tots instead of home fries and they were cold. Menu online didn’t sync with the actual menu with regard to some items (one that I had chosen to try) and prices have been raised though not unexpected in these times. As much as I wanted to like this place, I’ll not be returning. Everything was great…except the food and drinks!
