Hav & Mar is a vibrant seafood house from Chef Marcus Samuelsson located in the renowned arts district of Chelsea, NYC.                     My partner and I visited Hav & Mar a few months ago and were thoroughly impressed, so wanted to share the experience with our friends. Our group of nine went and ordered the $95 “tasting” menu expecting to sample a wide variety of the diverse dishes on the menu. However, we were disappointed to find that we were served gargantuan portions of just two main dishes, both of which were already listed on the much more economical $60 restaurant week menu. Star dishes, such as the bread basket which is already perfect for sharing, were notably absent and had to be ordered separately. With the chef’s minimal selections, we barely tried any of the menu. It would have been more cost-effective and an actual “tasting” if we had each just ordered a different main dish. We walked out stuffed of salmon and pasta, and because they brought so much, a few portions went to waste. To be clear, the food is spectacular, but man was our visit a massive disappointment.

                    Nice restaurant with some interesting food choices but it doesn’t have a wow factor. The tuna tartar was very good but our pasta and chicken dishes were less than impressive. The cocktails were also good and interesting mix. This is not the place I would go regularly.

                    Not as impressed as I thought I would be. Food was pretty good. Service was not great. We were there on a quiet Sunday so should have had more attentive service.
