Nathaniel’s Restaurant at the Hawthorne Hotel offers a perfect start and end to any day. The morning hours are bright with the wall of windows, the plates are creative and include all the Breakfast favorites; Pancakes, Waffles, our Hearty Hawthorne Breakfast, and our Famous house-made Hawthorne Corned Beef Hash!

Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings, Nathaniel’s transforms into a lounge-like atmosphere, with candles, live piano and acoustic entertainment or ambient music playing from our brass gramophone. Sit beside the baby grand piano, beneath the famed author’s portrait, or in front of the historical culinary tribute cabinet and you will find there is a reason our guests have loved Nathaniel’s Restaurant for decades.

                                                                              Food was great! Server was so sweet and on point. The only negative was that it was quite hot inside. Otherwise it was awesome.

                                                                              We went here for brunch. The staff wasn’t very friendly when we arrived for our reservation; the host didn’t even bring us to our table. Instead, she pointed at a table in the back corner and said “your table’s over there” and left us to walk over to the table (without menus). Food was fine, nothing special. Then again, it is hard to mess up breakfast food. My husband’s meal came out 5 minutes after the other 3 meals. Service overall was very slow, but at least there was a pianist playing.

                                                                              I really love this place and I really do like the hotel. But last night wasn’t terrific. It took a very long time for us to get our drinks and when we got them they were terrible. We didn’t bother changing them because we didn’t have the time. My food came out it was absolutely the wrong order. The food itself was fine it just wasn’t what I ordered. And when I mentioned that I could tell it would be kind of an ordeal to change so I just ate it.

                                                                              It was nice to duck into the Hotel for a very good lunch during a visit to Salem. They took reservations so we knew we could eat when we needed to. The service was courteous, but there were only two servers for the room, so you had to be patient. Our meals were good. For those of us that ordered burgers they came medium to medium-well vs medium rare, but that was the only nitpick. The fries were a lot better than the beer-battered onion rings. The mac and cheese was the best entree that came.

                                                                              Everything was great, except the cheese in the grilled cheese. With all of the delicious flavors of the sandwich, they overpowered the cheese. Maybe a sharp white cheddar would be a better option? Overall it was still a tasty sandwich!. Ambience and service was great!

                                                                              The food is so good! I want to know how they cook the green beans because they were perfect. The noise level was due to people at the bar having a few and the parade was going by right in front of the hotel/restaurant. It didn't take anything away from the experience. I love the way it looks, too. I would eat here again.

                                                                              We ate on the Tavern tonight, and it was fabulous! The ambience is perfect, service and food were great! It was Halloween Parade night, so it was packed, yet our service was still great! I wish there were more places like this around, a perfect Tavern vibe.
