We are a Laotian restaurant in the heart of the neighborhood of Shaw. Baan Mae means Mom's house in Laotian. Chef Seng of Thip Khao and Padaek is serving up dishes reminiscent of her home kitchen and her mother's kitchen.

Mom's House Reservation Policy:

All reservations are allowed a 15-minute grace period.

All parties must be present at the restaurant to be seated. If parties are incomplete by the end of the 15-minute grace period, the reservation may be moved to the waitlist upon the completion of the party.

Reservation wait times may be impacted in the case of rain or heat advisory as we will do our best to accommodate patio reservations indoors.

Due to our limited seating capacity, all reservations are limited to a maximum of 90-minute seating time and 2 hours for large parties of 5+.

    Great food, great service. A little tight which breaks up the noise level, but nothing that will keep us from recommending Baan Mae and returning ourselves.

    Enjoyed experiencing Laotian cuisine. Cocktail menu was abbreviated but creative. Food was okay. Overall good experience.

    All around, worth it. Great casual spot in Shaw. We had the tapioca dumplings, the baba ganoush, shrimp and noodles, crab curry (amazing) and the pork ribs but the sa;ad was the star.

    What a delicious meal! Everything was cooked to perfection and so flavorful. The service was extremely efficient. We would love to come again next time we’re in DC!

    We went during the “pop up” portion of the week so the menu was much shorter than regular Baan Mae. The pop up menu sounded like nothing I had ever seen before so I found it hard to choose. Every single thing we ordered was FABULOUS! Great flavor, great combinations of dishes and lovely service. Chef Ben outdid himself!

    The food here is fantastic. All the flavors are so well balanced. There is nothing not worth trying but the shrimp crudo, tapioca dumplings and banana blossom/jicama salad are special. Can’t wait to return.
