Apri l'appAlcohol 15%; Wine Enthusiast: 90. Our 2016 Petite Sirah is full-bodied with higher tannins and slightly lower acidity making is pleasingly dry. This big wine is enjoyable in its youth, but will age for 5-6 years. From Dragone Ranch in Calaveras County, our 2016 delivers deep rich flavors and aromas of bittersweet chocolate, blackberry pie with a hint of spice. Tasting Notes: Our 2016 Petite Sirah has an rich deep color with full-bodied flavors of bittersweet chocolate, blackberry, coffee, plums and black pepper. We suggest serving at 65F and decanting for a few hours to let the wine evolve. Vineyard Notes: From the Dragone Ranch in Calaveras County, our Petite Sirah has the best of what makes Calaveras County a great wine growing region - lots of sun, just enough water and unique soil composition. Winemaker Notes: Little known fact...Petite Sirah is an exceptionally rare grape with less than 10, 000 planted acres worldwide, growing mainly in California. As one of the deepest and opaque red wines, it is higher in antioxidants than most other red wines. Another good reason to enjoy a glass of Petite Sirah! Food Pairing Notes: The richness of this wine goes well with curries or meaty dishes like grilled beef or sausages, lasagna and other rich spicy dishes
Alcohol 14.5%. Cabernet Sauvignon is oe of most well-known wine varietals, growing almost anywhere. Our Isabel Cabernet Sauvignon is produced exclusively with fruit from the Rasmussen Vineyard in Calaveras County. These vines have benefitted from the warm, dry weather and rocky soil of Calaveras County. Once harvested, the wine is aged for three years in new American oak barrels after being cold soaked before fermentation. The care taken with both the fruit and the winemaking is what sets our Cabernet Sauvignon apart. Tasting Notes: The wine exhibits classic red Bordeaux flavors of cassis with cedar notes from the barrels. Vineyard Notes: The Isabel Cabernet is grown exclusively for Hovey Winery by Ginger and Clayton Rasmussen at their vineyard just east of Angels Camp, California. The 2016 growing season was exceptional, resulting is a wine worthy of the Isabel label. Winemaker Notes: The wine is cold soaked before fermentation and racked into new American oak barrels, and is aged for least 24 months months prior to bottling. This wine will age gracefully for three to five years. Food Pairing Notes: We find that grilled meats like New York strip steak pairs nicely with this robust wine. Alternatively try a charcuterie of ripe cheeses, spicy cured meats, olives and nuts
Alcohol 14.6%. The 2016 Isabel Reserve Barbera is harvested from the Walker Vineyard in El Dorado County. Lloyd Walker and his daughter Ann Johnson farm Barbera on a windy site off the Consumnes River canyon. Huge daily temperature swings provide a long hang time for great development in the grapes. The wine is loaded with the dried cherry flavors that make this variety a favorite in Piedmont and now the Sierra Foothills. Impactful from the very first sip with a long insistent finish, it partners beautifully with spicy pasta dishes
Alcohol 15.2%. The 2017 Zinfandel follows in the footsteps of our ever-popular previous vintages. The luscious wine is fruity without being sweet making it a Wine Club member favorite. A hint of berries combined with a little spice and vanilla round out the palette of the 2017 vintage. Aged in American and French Oak barrels for 18 months, this wine is lovely now and will continue to reward those who have the patience to lay it down for a year or two. Tasting Notes: The 2017 Zinfandel explodes with candied fruitiness followed by white pepper notes and toasty vanilla. The moderate tannins give this a smooth and jammy mouthfeel. Vineyard Notes: From the Calaveras County Dragone Ranch vineyard, this Zinfandel harkens back to previous vintages. The fruit, a Dupratt clone, is planted on extremely steep, rocky soil making it work to thrive - which is does! Winemaker Notes: We age our Zinfandel in a combination of American and French Oak barrels for 18 months giving it a lovely toasty finish. Although lighter in color than a Cabernet Sauvignon, its moderate tannins and slightly higher acidity give it a bolder feel. Food Pairing Notes: The fruitiness of Zinfandel pairs perfectly with sweet-savory dishes like curry, BBQ or hard cheeses like Manchego
Alcohol 14.0%. The 2017 Cinsault is a beautiful light red, great for summer sippin, with enough body to make it through the winter. Serve slightly chilled or at room temperature depending on the weather. Winemaker Notes: This is our 5th successive vintage of Cinsaut as a single varietal. Typically used as a blending grape, we found it so enticing on its own back in 2013 that we decided to bottle it as such. This latest version starts with a nose of roses and cranberries, then delivers dark chocolate, vanilla and white pepper on the palate. 13.7%. Food Pairing Notes: Will pair with a wide variety of foods, including grilled meat and ravioli
Acid 8.4, pH 3.27, Alcohol 14.8%. Our 2016 Barbera is produced with fruit from Rancho Victoria in Amador County. Barbera is one of the few varietals we source from outside of Calaveras County given that Barbera likes the higher elevations and slightly cooler evening temperatures. This vintage is complex with layered flavors of raspberry and cherry on the nose giving way to rich blackberry on the palette and a nice lightly spiced finish. Aged in French oak barrels adds increased complexity and hints of vanilla. Tasting Notes: The bright cherry and berry flavors one expects from a Barbera do not disappoint. The nose offers the essence of cherry nibs, yielding to flavors of cherry Jolly Ranchers with bright acidity. Vineyard Notes: Fruit for this vintage comes to us from the Rancho Victoria Vineyards in Amador County. Winemaker Notes: Excellent drinking to be enjoyed now, or can be aged for a couple of years for further mellowing. Food Pairing Notes: We suggest matching the natural flavor profile of this Barbera with grilled meats, herbs and spices such as sage, oregano, cinnamon, white pepper, and nutmeg. Grilled burgers with onions and blue cheese pair nicely with this varietal
Alcohol 14.8%. Winemaker Notes: From Rolleri Vineyard on Murphys Grade Road, our 2017 vintage offers aromas of dark chocolate, baked cherries and coffee bean on the nose. On your palate, this classic Ribera del Duero version presents blueberries along with and dark chocolate, finishing with soft, light tannins. Fully ready to drink now, this vintage will improve for at least five years. 14.8%. 299 cases produced. Pairs well with virtually any food, especially a summer BBQ
Acid 6.5, pH: 3.73, Residual Sugar: 0.32%, Alcohol 14.8%. The 2017 Hovey C² Red is a unique blend of two of our most popular varietals. Comprised of 55% Barbera and 45% Tempranillo, the blend is very approachable with smokey notes and beautiful tannins. Tasting Notes The Tempranillo delivers tobacco notes which are complimented by the rich depth of the Barbera. There is a fruitiness on the front end with hints of dark cherry and licorice. Vineyard Notes: Barbera (55%) is the foundation of this years blend and comes to us from the Rancho Victoria Vineyard in Plymouth. Tempranillo (45%) is sourced from the Cave City Vineyard in Angels Camp, and rounds out the 2017 Hovey C² Red blend. Winemaker Notes: The story behind C²: Chuck Hovey's mastery of both the art and science of wine-making are what set Hovey wines apart, and one of the reasons he loved the story behind the Hovey Tasting Room. The building was the original home of Albert Michelson who won the Nobel Prize in Physics for his work on measuring the speed of light (he discovered the "C²" in Einstein's E=MC²). Food Pairing Notes: The 2017 Hovey C² Red blend is a versatile wine that pairs well with everything from pizza and pasta to steaks and salads
Alcohol 13.7%. This Italian style rosé is produced from the Gianelli Vineyards' Sangiovese Grosso. This fruit-forward wine has a pleasantly dry finish, and its bright copper red color is a joy to look at. Tasting Notes: Aromas of rose petal and strawberry give way to raspberry and hints of pink grapefruit on the palate. Bright clean acidity leads to a lingering finish. Enjoy this Rosè chilled to showcase its many layers. Vineyard Notes: Direct from the rolling hills outside of Jamestown, CA, this fruit comes to us from the Gianelli Vineyards. The longstanding relationship between Hovey and Gianelli started when Chuck Hovey was the winemaker for Gianelli. They offered him use of their facility to begin production of his own wine. And the rest is history. Production Notes: The fruit is sole sourced from Gianelli Vineyards and never fails to impress. The fruit is pressed and left in contact with the skins for only a few hours, resulting in the beautiful copper red color of our Sangiovese Rosè. The wine is left to age in oak barrels for ~12months before being bottled. Food Pairing Notes: The acidity of this wine marries well with Caprese Salad, Teriyaki Chicken, or Thai Curries. And of course, any and all cheeses
Alcohol 14.0%. Our signature reserve Isabel Chardonnay is based on the Dijon Clone from the Rorick Heritage Vineyard, located just outside of Murphys, California. Planted in 1974, the vines are own-rooted in schist soils over a limestone bedrock on property owned by Matthew Rorick and his family. The vine age, elevation, and insanely, rocky soils create incredibly low yielding vines with the tiniest of clusters. The Isabel Chardonnay is barrel fermented in 100% new French Oak which gives it a full bodied flavor. This creamy Chardonnay is extremely well balanced by fresh acidity and a grainy texture, with aromas of peach and mango, all rounded off by a long finish. Tasting Notes: The dazzling nose presents caramel and peach, with a plump round taste bringing in herbal honey, spicy vanilla and grains of paradise. Vineyard Notes: Shaw Ranch, Calaveras County. Production Notes: 100% Dijon clone fermented and conditioned for ten months in new French oak (Le Grand) barrels. Winemaker Notes This chardonnay is delightful now, and will likely become even more distinctive with as much as five years in the bottle. Isabel Chardonnay is best enjoyed if served not too cold, perhaps around 50F
Alcohol 13.5%. This wine is roughly an equal blend of the citrus and melon strains of the Viognier fruit. On the nose you'll note white peach, orange blossoms and nectarine. On the palate you will experience pink grapefruit, Meyer lemon and honey, with a crisp finish. A perfect refreshing summer white, this is ready to drink now. 13.5%. Food Pairing Notes: Pairs nicely with salmon/poached fish and garlic chicken dishes
Alcohol 13.7%. The C2 brand is our nod to Albert Michelson - the 1907 Noble award-winning physicist known for his work on measuring the speed of light (he is the "C2" in Einstein's equation E=MC2). That said, we like to keep our blend unique from year to year. We focus on Mediterranean varietals with our 2018 blend using Albarino (50%), Viognier (40%) and Chardonnay (10%). The result is a refreshing, dry white that is goes down easy on a hot summer afternoon. Tasting Notes: Pale yellow in color. On the nose you'll sense pineapple and mango. On the palate: pineapple with crisp green apple and lemon grass. A lingering finish with soft mouth feel. Food Pairing Notes: The clean, crisp white pairs well with grilled salmon, butter soaked crab or camembert cheese
Alcohol 13.8%. Case Special: Buy 12 bottles and Save 30% plus Free Shipping in CA. Duende is a Spanish term for which there is no literal translation. Generally speaking, it means a mischievous spirit, which is an apt description for our Duende Chardonnay. The fruit comes to us from both the Chatom and Rorick vineyards in Calaveras County. Oak barrels deliver subtle, sometimes spicy flavors with a more silky texture. Tasting Notes: Light gold in color, the nose exhibits toasted vanilla with a hint of pineapple, leading to balanced flavors including pear, blanched almonds and honeysuckle. Vineyard Notes: Blend of fruit from two classic Calaveras vineyards: Shaw Ranch's Dijon clone brings clean lofty acidity while Chatom's grapes contribuite lush tropical flavors. Winemaker Notes: The wine is barrel fermented in 1 year, 2 year and 3 year French Oak barrels to impart more subtle flavors and a silky texture on the finish. Food Pairing Notes: Pair this wine with mild, subtle foods that are not too spicy, not too pungent and not too acidic. Try any type of shellfish, simply seasoned chicken or pork dishes, or a creamy sauce-based dish like Fettuccine Alfredo
Alcohol 12.5%. Hovey Isabel Sparkling wine is made from a blend of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Pinot Meunier grapes that are fermented in the bottle, referred to as Methode Champenoise. This classic blend of grapes makes a sparkling wine of great finesse with fine textured bubbles. Tasting Notes: Our Sparkling wine is very approachable with citrus, pear and floral aromas with a hint of yeast. With the first sip you'll notice the light citrus notes and a smooth texture of the fine bubbles. The finish of this wine is well-balanced with a note of grapefruit. Vineyard Notes: This fruit comes to us from the North Coast with it's cooler nights and wetter climate, this is one of the few varietals we source from outside of Calaveras County.
