Located in the historic Fulton Market district of Chicago’s West Loop neighborhood, il Carciofo is a Roman Italian restaurant drawing inspiration from the restaurants and markets in one of Chef Joe's favorite cities, Rome. The restaurant offers a seasonal menu of elevated yet familiar Italian fare with traditional antipasti, Roman-style pizzas, hand-rolled pastas produced daily in a dedicated pasta lab and market-driven mains that highlight the season's bounty.

    Great experience! Mike the bartender was AMAZING! Our server Alessandro had perfect recommendations and made our night even better with his fun personality. Hard to pick a favorite dish although the namesake is AMAZING! Great food, great drinks, great vibe! We can’t wait to go back soon.

    Food was pretty mediocre. Only the two pastas we tried (amatriciana, oxtail tagliatelle) and the romanesco were good. The halibut was not good. The gelato was icy and grainy when it should be smooth. Even though the whipped cream in the maritozzi was good, the brioche was dry. Overall, very overhyped restaurant.

    Wanted to give it 5 stars and I think in due time it’ll get there. Service was very good, but not prompt. Wait staff was knowledgeable, friendly, and patient, but took a long time to first be seen and receive our drinks. The restaurant itself is very pretty, and it was great to see it packed. GNOCCHETTI PESTO - pillowy, light, excellent. Would order again every time. SPAGHETTI AGLIO E OLIO - highly flavorful, complex, about 30 seconds away from being fully cooked. SUPPLI RAGU - excellent, salty, crispy. Would order again. CARCIOFI ALLA GUIDA - the leaves were salty fried heavenly perfection. The heart was good, but not mind blowing. That said, will recommend to everyone going. PIZZA ROSSO - very solid, very good SWEET CREAM GELATO - would not order again. Grainy, icy, and over churned. Cocktails were both solid. Looking forward to going back. All in all for a few week old restaurant was very impressed.

    Everything was great. Service speed was just right aside from receding our check before we were ready. Food was great. Overall vibes were great.

    Il Carciofo was absolutely incredible! My fiancé, who is from Italy, was thoroughly impressed by the authenticity and exceptional quality of the food. The service was outstanding—thoughtful and attentive, making our birthday celebration truly memorable with special touches. Some standout dishes included the Carciofi alla Giudia (an absolute must-try; somehow perfectly crispy yet tender without being chewy), the Tagliatelle, Mezze Rigatoni Alla Amatriciana, and the Abbacchio alla Scottadito. We can’t wait to return!

    If you are a lover of true Roman cuisine, you'll feel right at home at il Carciofo. It (selfishly) pains me to write this as it is already a long line to get a reservation, but as a couple who truly loves spending time in Italy and have yet to find an American restaurant that holds its salt, Chef Joe Flamm and his team hit this one out of the park. Watching him work the kitchen was like watching a conductor at the Orchestra. The carbonara, carciofi and pistachio gelato transported us right back to our favorite spots in Rome. We originally booked back to back nights in case we had a last minute scheduling conflict, fortunately we did not. We enjoyed last night and we'll be back again tonight to take on the other half of the menu. Hats off, Chef!

    Excellent food with lively ambiance! The attentive service and attention to detail were noticeable. Had a great time at the chef’s table chatting with the amazing cooks behind the counter!

    Beautiful open space - smooth organization for one week since opening. I wish I had taken a picture of the veal (saltimbocca) because it was spectacular! We will go back for sure!

    Lovely time here! Absolutely adored this spot. Friendly staff, great waiter, food came quickly but not too quick. Delightful suggestions. We had the artichokes, tagliatelle, and the pesto gnocchi. Tagliatelle could’ve had more sauce IMO, but still tasty. Perfectly cooked pasta. Loved it!
