Step inside Il Fornaio and take a culinary journey through Italy. Early mornings bring rustic, crisp crusted bread hot from the oven accompanied by the scent of fresh brewed espresso. During lunch and dinner hours, pastas and flavorful sauces simmer while meats and vegetables roast over hot coals. Bottles of wine from small, regional wineries are uncorked to complement the dishes, which have been crafted in the custom of Italy's chefs, bakers and homemakers. Il Fornaio means "the Baker" in Italian. This award-winning restaurant offers an authentic and unique Italian dining experience. Specialties include wood-fired rotisserie and grilled meats, poultry and game; house made pastas; pizzas from an oak wood burning oven; fresh salads and house made soups; a wide variety of desserts; and fresh baked bread made daily from scratch.

Piacevole sorpresa Volevamo pranzare a Coronado in prossimità del porticciolo, e rifuggire dai trappoloni turistici. Ci accolgono col sorriso e ci fanno accomodare vista mare. L’ambiente è pulito e luminoso, allegro. La nostra cameriera, Susan, è stata molto gentile e professionale, oltre ad averci fornito degli ottimi consigli! Abbiamo preso una zuppa e un’insalata con barbabietole e formaggio di capra, semplici ma saporite e fresche. I calamari erano pescati e non congelati, una vera rarità (come promesso e mantenuto da Susan!). Il pane merita una menzione speciale, viene prodotto in loco e servito caldo con ottima vinaigrette. Anche il conto finale è stato sorprendente per onestà! Consigliamo e torneremo

Lo scenario della baia di Coronado da solo vale la metà del prezzo della cena. Poi i sapori italiani e la simpatia del capo cameriere Simone (milanese) fanno il resto. Il costo è mediamente elevato ma in linea con i buoni ristoranti di San Diego. Esperienza positiva.

We were there this evening 2/16/2025 to celebrate my daughter's 18th birthday! I would have given it 5 stars if it weren't for the hostess. She was a young girl no more than 25 years of age. She was rude first on the phone, then when we arrived as well. Our waitress was amazing/superb and our food was great. I would still highly recommend, the restaurant.

Very disappointing - I’ve dined at this restaurant before and also their properties in Irvine and Los Angeles and had great experiences but this time was an unmitigated disaster; 1. It’s chilly at this time of year in San Diego so I specifically booked at table inside. When seated, the hostess walked us outside and I politely informed her I had booked for inside as it was 55 degrees. She very rudely told me that the seating was purely a request and they couldn’t guarantee a table inside - so why even ask your preference? They will just sit you where they like, regardless. I was about to ask for a manager however she had already run away, totally uninterested. 2. We thought perhaps we could suffer outside but my partner was dressed to the nines in a cocktail dress and was very cold. They had heaters outside but decided to move them all to the guests by the water leaving us freezing ! 3. I immediately tried to cancel the booking and go somehere else however since the reservation has started the OpenTable app wouldn’t let me. Suggest you add a feature to cancel a booking if the restaurant is not up to par. 4. I told our server we would be leaving and they got a manager and moved us inside - to a terrible table in the middle of an open space that looked like a space filler. 5. The only saving grace was our server (from Peru and Ireland) was fantastic and the food was awesome. 6. The toilets absolutely stank like they were at a football stadium. It’s a shame when a great restaurant goes to pieces because of bad management, the hostess and managers need to realize it’s a very competitive industry and if you dine and expect to pay $500 you expect good service - not treated like cattle. I will never dine there again as there are hundreds of 5 star alternatives and hope from this review no one ever has to experience the same and the senior leadership make some changes.

Food was really really good. Service was slow and they didn’t acknowledge our birthday request until after our bill was paid.
