Step inside Il Fornaio and take a culinary journey through Italy. Early mornings bring rustic, crisp crusted bread hot from the oven accompanied by the scent of fresh brewed espresso. During lunch and dinner hours, pastas and flavorful sauces simmer while meats and vegetables roast over hot coals. Bottles of wine from small, regional wineries are uncorked to complement the dishes, which have been crafted in the custom of Italy's chefs, bakers and homemakers. Specialties include wood-fired rotisserie and grilled meats, poultry and game; house made pastas; pizzas from an oak wood burning oven; fresh salads and house made soups; a wide variety of desserts; and fresh baked bread made daily from scratch. Repeat winner of the Wine Spectator Award of Excellence.

    We were staying in Del Mar for the weekend and are so pleased that we came here on our last night in town. The Linguini de Mare was INCREDIBLE, service was top notch and it’s in a cute little plaza with plenty going on. Highly recommend.

    Been to multiple IF locations many times - this was by far the worst experience. Food took an hour but there was a very large party. Understandable, I get it. But, when food came quality was very poor - bland and tasteless to say the least. Do not recommend this location. Get the feeling that they are consistently busy due to location and not performance.

    It’s a longtime favorite for us. The food is always good. The service is good. Even on a busy night they were able to fit us in and we did not have to wait.

    Overall, a good experience. My server was great and very attentive. The food was pretty good. Didn’t blow me away. When I feel I can make something better at home, then I’m a little disappointed I went out and paid for it. But my daughter loved her dinner. More expensive than it should have been for the food and ambiance. More of a very casual restaurant vibe than is reflected in the price of the food. Felt it could be stepped up in quality and effort. A bit bland. Some things were very good. Others just ok.

    Food was very good and the service was on point. The covered outdoor heated patio can be surprisingly noisy so we opted for inside.

    My son ordered RIGATONI ALLA VODKA which was pretty good and so was MARGHERITA Pizza. We has also ordered BRANZINO LIVORNESE which was not great. We had opted for outdoor seating which was good. I would have rather preferred to go during daytime for the ocean view.
