We don't take ourselves too seriously at Jax Fish House. Two things we do take seriously? The freshness and sustainability of our seafood. You know fresh fish when you see, smell, and taste it-and thanks to modern delivery technology, we bring in that freshy-fresh seven days a week. Sustainability is a little more complicated. Not all commercial fisheries are created equal. That's why we work closely with our suppliers and science-based organizations to ensure that every single thing we serve is responsibly sourced. We consider the stocks of the species we source to prevent overfishing and we work with suppliers who harvest in ways that have minimal impacts on marine environments.

First trip. Cold , windy afternoon. Coats on much of the time and cold feet every front door opens. Started with Caesar salad. Not big enough to split even at $15. Ordered scallops ($43). Four small ones with a few veg. Filled only half the plate. The cioppino was excellent but a lot of work (cracking the crab). Dessert of lime tart excellent .

Went there for a birthday. Everything was pretty good except for the ahi tuna. It was really stringy and was overcooked, wasn’t cool inside and parts were cooked through.

We had a two-top, and we were nervous that people would knock over our drinks as they passed by The food was good, appetizers and entrees, however our entrees were not as hot as we would have liked! We blame the waiter who we felt was ok. We felt he was “too cool” versus serving the table efficiently. He was nice, but we only got water refills after a long absence. And, it took a long time to get the entrees, again not as hot as they should have been, and we blame the waiter who was probably being “too cool” versus serving n a timely manner. Thank you

Acknowledging the very slow service, our server told us there were only 3 waiters scheduled that night - for a packed house at 6:30 pm. It took us 2 hours for our simple meal for 2 on a Monday night! Our cocktails sat on the bar for 10 minutes until i finally approached the bartender to ask if i could take them to our table; he brought them himself immediately. The restaurant is incredibly small, crowded & loud, with just a few tables for 2. There were no towels in the one unisex bathroom. They did not acknowledge my note in my reservation that we were celebrating my husband’s birthday until I asked. We have been to the Jax in Denver many times and had good experiences, but this evening’s celebration was a big disappointment.

We went for happy hour and it amazing. The scallops, deviled eggs, and calamari were today. Great oysters too.
