In 1985, Jimmy Frantze purchased JJ's from his former business partner and the saloon's namesake. He didn't know it at the time, but this led to a West Plaza fine dining icon we all know today, and we're not just talking about the Paco's Shrimp!
In 1996, JJ's was awarded the Grand Award from Wine Spectator, ranking the wine list as one of the top in the world.
Our enthusiasm and passion for exceptional contemporary American cuisine and wine has created one of the finest restaurants in Kansas City just a block west of the Country Club Plaza. Our friendly, knowledgeable, and professional staff look forward to serving you!

                  The filet was supurb; the potatoes and salad were perfect. We got replacement for the grilled asparagus as what was plated was overcooked and mushy. Replacement was perfectly cooked.

                  The food was good and service was good but we were in a tiny room with the door closed with no windows that was cramped with a bunch of tables and was very claustrophobic. it was also uncomfortable as there were to other two tops and we were a four top and the entire room could hear everything we were saying. I love JJ's but would find somewhere else if that is the only sitting choice, it does make a difference to the experience.

                  Very nice and professional staff from the receptionist to the waitress. Lovely dining room, great service and excellent food.

                  Went to JJ's for Restaurant Week {RW} (but have also been there before). The menu for dinner for RW was terrific and the price was excellently reasonable! All of the food was excellent, with the filet's being cooked perfectly, juicy and tender. The salmon also was terrific and all of the appetizers and deserts were also VERY tasty! The one exception was that the strip steak was somewhat tough. Even though the place was packed for RW (VERY loud), the service was also smooth and very attentive. In fact, we went with another couple who had not been to JJ's and they raved about it! We will all be back! JJ's is a great place to go eat at any time!

                  Everything on the Restaurant Week menu was outstanding. We will definitely go back as there were several items on the regular menu we would also like to try.

                  Great experience! Restaurant Week brought us in. We enjoyed drinks and the Parmesan Fries during Happy Hour. Apple on the Spritz was light and refreshing. Chose the shrimp appetizer and the meatballs. Shrimp had a nice presentation-- flavor not overwhelming. The meatballs are amazing..great flavor. We both had steaks, which were excellent! The mashed potatoes were very flavorful, as was the asparagus. However, the asparagus was not even warm. Dessert was the triple chocolate treat--just amazing flavor! However, it was VERY overpriced. We bought two desserts to go, and would not choose to do that again given the quantity for the price. We dined at 5 p.m. and most tables were full by 6 p.m. The din from just normal conversation is very loud. We really enjoyed the red zinfandel wine served with our meal. On another occasion, the amazingly extensive wine list will be a nice treat. Service was truly outstanding. John was our waiter, but all staff members were efficient and courteous. We look forward to a return visit.
