We went to Joe Beef just before Christmas to treat ourselves. We started with the Potage Soupe Courges Aligot, which was delicious, and the Jambon Blanc Cuit au Foin, a plate full of sliced ham stacked in a pile—it was just okay. However, the Gros Contrefilet we ordered to share (steak, mini potatoes, and bone marrow) was disappointing, especially considering the price. The dish lacked flavor, and everything was served at room temperature. When the server asked if everything was to our liking, we mentioned the food wasn’t warm. She took it back to the kitchen for five minutes, but it was only slightly warmed up upon return. The restaurant was incredibly loud—we couldn’t hear each other. We were so put off that we didn’t even bother to order the Marjolaine dessert.

Tremendous food with friendly and personable service. The lobster pasta is INCREDIBLE, as is the pumpernickel smorgasbord.

Incredible place to eat. Service was great, and everyone was friendly and attentive. Food was also perfect. Congrats.

It was soooo loud. Soooo soooo loud. Thankfully, our server was able to move us to another room where it was a bit better. Service was wonderful. Oysters were amazing. So fresh. Food was expensive but good. We had the hangar steak and the lobster pasta. Both cooked to perfection. Happy we went but with all of the great restaurants in Montreal, I would not rush to return.

We had an amazing time. We learned of Joe Beef from an Anthony Bourdain special last year, and in March of this year we learned we were going to move here. We’ve been planning to go here since we arrived in August, and were finally able to make it. It was everything we hoped it would be, and we were able to try some amazing dishes. Staff are extremely attentive, knowledgeable and engaging. Definitely the first of many visits while we live here.

Just a perfect dining experience. The food. The service. The decor. I’ve wanted to eat at Joe Beef for quite a few years, and there was absolutely nothing about my experience that was a let down.
