400 years of traditional Japanese Kaiseki meets modernity in New York City. Hailing from the original Kawabun Ryotei in Nagoya, Chef Yoshitaka Ito invites you to experience inspired Kaiseki A La Carte dishes. Kawabun NYC offers two dining rooms and bar seating with elevated drink offerings, extensive mock tails, seasonal specials, Japanese tea, house made desserts and an innovative design.

                            The Aesthetic of the restaurant is nice and the marketing/ social media makes it feel like a quality experience with an approachable price poin t albeit still on the higher end. 5 dishes 2 beers and dessert $315. The dishes arrived in an orderly fashion. The sashimi was decent but the tuna tartare quality was bad tasteless frozen yellowfin tuna if I were to guess. The shrimp sando was over cooked and expensive for just 3 bites and some pickles $21. Was really hopeful this could be my wife and I’s go to spot for Japanese casual dining. If you Don’t have exceptionally high standards for Japanese Food this could be the place for you. Personally the experience was a let down and I felt moved to say something about it.

                            Would not go back unfortunately. Really overpriced for the food (execution, quality ingredients) that it baffles me what they are charging. The biggest turn off for me is the 10 pieces of sashimi for $60. The fish quality is worse than conbini fish in Japan…

                            Overall it was very good. Tasty menu (price reflected that too!). Overall I’d recommend ppl going - good date night place, nice ambience, cocktails tasty. Sometimes the food can be a bit dry though (the clay pot rice specifically. Or other dishes were ok - Wagyu beef was so tender!)

                            The food was very disappointing and overpriced. Our waiter was nice and polite. That’s the only good thing about the restaurant. I wouldn’t recommend.
