## La Mama: A Santa Fe Gem

Located steps from The Plaza, La Mama is a wine bar, restaurant, cafe and specialty market. By day this spot pulls fresh coffee and serves up full breakfast and lunch offerings. The lovingly rendered, light-filled 1915 bungalow has ground floor banquettes, a cozy mezzanine, a charming covered front porch and a convivial backyard patio.

By night, La Mama transforms into a delicious dinner hang out serving food crafted from local and seasonal ingredients alongside a full list of natural wines, local tap beers and an extensive selection of non-alcoholic beverages. Start your meal with house-made focaccia with whipped local-milk ricotta, organic chicken liver paté or lamb crepinette. Continue on to larger dishes like the veg-friendly winter squash gnocchi garnished with piñon dust or the confit duck with black lentils and chard. Finish it all with something sweet like the salt-baked apple.

The food here was delicious - well crafted, creative, and intentionally sourced. Our server John was knowledgeable about the food. His passion about the restaurant’s mission to provide sustainable, high quality local food really showed and contributed to a wonderful experience here overall.

Food was tasty. Upstairs was unbearably warm and they could have opened windows to cool it off. Wine very good. We will try again.

The atmosphere here is nice but they don't have quite the service or level of food preparation to match their ambitions. They were serving oysters, for example, but they were not shucked properly. The recipes don't seem well balanced. Nor are they especially accommodating. When asked if they would make a simple, butter pasta for a child, they said they could not, although they literally sell bags and bags of plain pasta, and certainly have butter and parmesan cheese on hand. In fact, I've never had a restaurant turn down that request before! They don't seem to understand what fine restaurants in fact offer, which is about the overall experience. But perhaps they'll grow into it.

Hi there, Thanks so much for the feedback! We have several items on the menu that are kid-friendly including polenta or risotto with parm, butter and grilled cheese. We are a tiny restaurant and we currently offer risotto instead of pasta for our seasonal menu. We have pasta imported from Italy for sale in our artisanal market which we don't use for our menu. When we have pasta on the menu, we make it in-house. :) We added oysters to our menu as of last weekend when you were here and are still nailing down the way we serve them. There are two schools of thought with detaching the oyster foot: attached or not? Apologies and we appreciate you ordering them. Hope this clears up any confusion. Great experience. Really good food. Loved the focus on locally grown/raised food. Our wine was unique and fascinating. Our server was attentive. What’s not to like?? Took us a while to get there, but we’ll be there many more times, I’m sure.

La Mama is probably my favorite place for dinner as a local. The ingredients are super high-quality, prepared delicious and not fussy ways. Great natural wines and really lovely service. It's not super fancy but the food feels special with a lovely calm ambience.

What a great find! We live in Santa Fe and this is becoming one of our favorite restaurants. The food and service are both superb and its casual, understated elegance is a refreshing change from some of the bigger, more high-profile restaurants in this town. Duck confit is the best I’ve ever tasted! But everything is good.

What a delightful restaurant ! We were sat in the coziest dining room with a gorgeous bottle of sparkling rose from Greece. We tried most everything on the menu and loved it all. Almonds and olives, radish salad, spreads, house-made focaccia and ricotta, duck confit, gnocchi and blue corn polenta with Parmesan! Yum! New Favorite place! Hel was great!
