Le Yaca began in 1964 in Courchevel, a tiny, country village in the French Alps. Daniele Bourderau & Gerard decided it would be fun to open a small restaurant. When friends learned of their plans, they told the hopeful restaurateurs they were crazy to think people would drive eight kilometers on a winding, icy road for dinner. Daniele and Gerard hesitated for three months and then decided, “yaca le faire,” a contraction of the French phrase “il n’y a qu’a le faire,” which basically means, “let’s do it.” They called the restaurant Le Yaca as a gag, but the name caught on with customers who were amused by the pun and contributed to the restaurant’s lore by inventing “yaca-isms” of their own: yaca y aller (let’s go). Daniele came to the United States and opened Le Yaca in Williamsburg. Daniel Abid bought Le Yaca in 2001. Daniel worked and trained in such prestigious places as “Le Pre Catelan” and “Lenotre” in Paris; “L’Amandier” and “Roger Verge," and to top it all off, “Alain Ducass

    Our food was absolutely delicious-the lobster tail was tender and perfectly cooked and the crab cake is the very best I have ever had. The other diners with me ordered filet steaks and they, too were perfectly cooked and tender and delicious-beautiful presentation. The service is always excellent-so friendly and professional-perfect. The atmosphere is quiet and charming-perfect for a wonderful dining experience. It’s our favorite restaurant! It’s also great value for the quality of the food.

    Outstanding as usual. Food was very well prepared, with beautiful presentation, and very professional, knowledgeable service. We thoroughly enjoyed the Sunday brunch during which we had the crab cake and lobster entrees along with soup appetizers and delicious dessert. Don’t forget the drinks as well. Very highly recommended for an excellent and memorable dining experience!!!

    The steak was prepared as medium rare but there was no seasoning and it had a burnt taste.

    It’s a great alternative to restaurants in colonial Williamsburg. The staff was very warm. The dishes were excellent and authentic. The ingredients were fresh. We well definitely come back.

    I had an excellent meal for my birthday. Absolutely the best value in Williamsburg. 4 course meal including drink for $45.00 can’t be beat.

    Le Yaca lived up to all the hype on social media, Trip Advisor, Yelp, and Open Table. I had booked our reservations 7 months out in advance of our Thanksgiving trip to Williamsburg. Every aspect of our dining experience was great. Check in was easy and pleasant and we were seated promptly. Our server, Gail was cheerful, friendly, knowledgeable, helpful, and professional. She guided us through the considerable selections and offered the special Belon oyster appetizer to add to our choices. The menu offered the choice of ordering à la carte, 2, 3 ($50 or $65 options), or 5 courses ($90). We opted for the 3 course selection (1 @ $50, 1 @ $65). My choice included a unique preparation of French onion soup (so velvety, cheesy and delicious!), a delicate, flavorful exquisitely prepared Scottish salmon with a buttery lemon sauce and thin, peeled lemon garnish served over a bed of perfectly cooked spinach. Good to the last delectable bite! My husband also enjoyed the French onion soup starter, then the coquilles St. Jacques, a beautifully baked dish of large scallops perfectly cooked with a cheesy crust. Asparagus was an accompaniment. We had also ordered a combination of baked and raw Belon oysters to share. Both were excellent—raw were sweet and plump; baked were also sweet served in a delicate light lemony butter sauce. Desserts were also good. One tiramisu and one very light lemon chiffon concoction served with strawberries and raspberry coulis. Le Yaca—a must for an exceptional dinner! Ask for Gail as your server. She was great!

    This restaurant is an absolute gem! The decor is beautiful and elegant but not stuffy. The service is attentive without being intrusive. The food is expertly prepared and delicious. We visit Colonial Williamsburg once a year and Le Yaca will now be a must dining stop for us!
