So happy to see the very long overdue updates at the Nittany Lion Inn. It’s beautiful, both at the 1855 bar and Lionne. The drinks were great and the food was awesome, too. The pace of dining was too fast. It seemed rushed when it should be more of a dining experience. Hopefully the staff will work that out. It’s unfortunate that as guests of the bar and restaurant you are required to pay for parking, hopefully they will work that out too.

Newer restaurant. Atmosphere was nice. Table sat at was too small for number of people. Pacing of meal and service was rushed.

Overall, the food was very good. We ate during the 4,5, or 6 course meal on New Year’s Eve. Definitely one of the better food establishments in Centre County. I will say I did expect a better service for fine dining. It wasn’t bad by any means and better than most places in the area, but comparing to other fine dining we’ve been to, the service was lacking. Little things like taking awhile to clear plates or asking if we want pepper on salads when we had one bite of salad left. Again, all minor. I’m just noting that for the price of fine dining, we’re paying for a certain level of service in addition the food. If this were billed as a standard local restaurant, the service would be at the top of that group.

Friendly greeting but confusion about reservation and table delayed seating. Wait staff seemed overwhelmed and frenzied throughout service. Steak and salmon well cooked, but chicken was very dry. Overall presentation of food was lovely. Bar service was very, very slow. We always give a restaurant a 2nd and even 3rd try, but for the money, this experience was very underwhelming. I hope our next visit is better.

My visit was on a Friday in December, 2024. This restaurant is new and is still working out their kinks. They need to be a well oiled machine. I would consider returning in the Spring. The Nittany Lion Inn renovation is beautifully done. The lounge area is designed for comfortable and private areas for small groups to meet. I looked for the Gingerbread rendition of the Nittany Lion Inn that had been there in the past. This was a special addition. There is no validation for parking when you dine or stay at the Inn. Our reservation for Lionne was at 5 pm and the dining room was not ready for us. We were asked to wait in the lounge to be summoned. Apparently, there was a communication error. We returned at 5:15pm. The restaurant was mostly empty and quiet. Our server left to get the specials. He returned several minutes later to take our order. Then left to again to get the specials. The food was uneven. The lobster bisque was delicious, although the lobster chunks were minimal in my bowl. I found 2 pieces. My dining companion had 6. The medium/rare salmon was overcooked to medium and the carrots were hard and undercooked. Sauerkraut did not work well with this dish. The scallop dish was excellently prepared. The selection for creamery ice cream was minimal that evening. We went to the creamery instead.

It sounds like there were some service and food inconsistencies, but it's good to hear that you appreciated the Nittany Lion Inn renovation and the lounge space. We are certainly moving in the correct direction as the restaurant settles in, these kinks will be worked out. I agree, returning in the Spring might offer a smoother experience.
