Restaurant L’Orignal is tucked a few steps below street level in a historic building on a sleepy side street in Old Montreal. We’ve been serving elegant comfort food and inventive dishes inspired by Quebec’s vast terroir since 2008. Our menu changes often in order to elevate seasonal ingredients. We choose our suppliers in consideration of the quality of their products as well as the sustainability of their practices.

First time to L’Orignal and we had a fantastic experience. The owners truly get customer experience. This along with great food and a great atmosphere, we will be back next time we’re in town.

A warm and friendly environment with exceptional service. Great music. Great food. It’s like going to a friend’s home for a great meal. I have visited LOrignal several times and it never disappoints. I’m my last visit I had a perfectly cooked Halibut special, Brussels sprouts glazed with honey and goat cheese, kale salad. My guest has pork schnitzel to blow your socks off and a meatball starter (pork & beef) in a sauce that made him run out of sourdough bread quickly. 10 out of 10. I can’t wait until my next visit.

Amazing food as always - great cocktails as always. Michael is an excellent host - as always. In spite of a snowy wintry night - a fun time was had by all. I look forward to the next time I get to drop in to my favourite “local” Montreal spot!

If you want to experience the true culture and feel of Old Montreal, L’Orignal is the perfect place. Great food at reasonable prices with superb service.

I can't rave more about this restaurant than I already have so many people since I visited there last week. Very groovy comfortable restaurant. Michael, the owner/bartender was so inviting from the moment we stepped in the restaurant. He took our coats and took us to a table that he thought would be most comfortable for us, which was actually at the bar. We chatted while he worked effortlessly and recommended a number of items that we tried. The food was incredibly authentic, well prepped, and executed flawlessly. We had a mushroom toast, Chicken Liver parfait, Bison, burger, a sensational schnitzel and a top it off, we had a sticky toffee pudding that was nice and light vs heavy and too dense. We ate at some very nice restaurants throughout our five day stay in Montreal, but this was definitely our favourite restaurant and very reasonable from a pricing perspective. 10 out of 10 for value. Great job Michael and keep it up.

Food was good, not exceptional (had salmon entree, fish main). Fish arrived only wam, not hot. Very small quantities, and little detailing - really felt like the kitchen was trying to save money. Disappointing, I’ve been going to this place for years, and always found it to be very good food

L'Orignal is my favourite restaurant in Montreal! I would describe the food as elevated comfort food with a creative Quebecois twist. The owners and staff are exceptional; attentive, engaging and truly service oriented. I have never been in a restaurant where the servers describe their specials in an almost poetic way; its hard not to order everything on the menu. While I've not met the Chef, they are truly talented and understand how to grab the attention of their guests with unique dishes that appeal to everyone! Thanks for another terrific experience L'Orignal! I'll continue to tell everyone visiting Montreal to try this special gem! See you next time I'm in town! Doug R.
