   I went for Oakland Restaurant week because I just moved across the street from Mago. Wow. I enjoyed each course and the wine pairings were Divine. The food was nuanced and delicious. Art really. I thought my waiter was really cool, friendly and I loved learning about the wines from him. The experience was also a performance. The way the staff was aligned and provided excellent service was so well rehearsed that it flowed with ease It was like being in an episode of The Bear without the anxiety. Lol. Truly memorable. I am so excited to bring friends and to become a happy hour regular! Thanks 🙏 for a fantastic sublime meal and experience.

   We had the weekday tasting menu without the drink pairing. Very nice prix fixe with a good amount of food overall. Not inexpensive, but also not your everyday meal. To hit the highlights - The stalk of fire-grilled asparagus and roast beets/papaya salad were simple and delicious. The swordfish/stew of shrimp, snap peas and ginger was also exceptional. The pastry chef was fantastic with two small desserts - a Merengón/epazote, blueberry, buttermilk and a coconut/banana leaf ice cream. I would definitely go back for a special evening out.

   Exquisitely presented, unusual and delicious food! Service and atmosphere luxe, but warm and comfortable. While I understand we had a tasting menu, a bread of some sort would have been a great addition- portions are very small. Outstanding service.

   The service at Mago was great. All the staff was knowledgeable and attentive just to the right degree. The prix fixed menu started strong with just a couple of misses, but the entree was really disappointing: a boring and overcooked pork chop. Some of the dessert dishes didn’t really work, with discordant flavors and odd consistencies. I expected to take a hit on the bill (right around $400 for two people, which included a drink each matched to each of the 3 main parts of the menu). I hear the bar menu is good, so I would recommend skipping the chef’s tasting menu if you want to give Mago a try.

    Magu is my favorite restaurant in Oakland! The menu is always fresh and such a wonderful combination of flavors.
