Manta is the signature restaurant of the iconic Mauna Kea Beach Hotel and has breathtaking views of the Kohala Coast. The menu is a curation of Pacific Rim cuisine with seasonal, local, and sustainably-produced ingredients.
Chef Bryan Nagao has gained formidable reputation in the international food community. He was once described by American media as "the most notable figures in rendering Modern Asian cuisine in the Northern hemisphere". The creativity permeating his cuisine stems from the diversity of his culinary background. Bryan's cuisine is a multi-faceted reflection of his Hawai'i Island birthplace, his Japanese ancestry, and decades spent in the finest restaurants in Hong Kong and Taipei.

                                                              The service was really great! Atmosphere was super quiet and personal. Waiter knew his stuff about the menu and was very persistent on checking in throughout the menu. Not a whole lot of food options especially if you don’t like seafood. We got steak ($70) it was pretty big but the flavors were very strong (vinegary) and not what I would call 5 stars. The mahi mahi was good, but not outstanding. Food was okay but not worth the price. Really had high hopes since the chef is credible and the menu was fresh. Would not say it’s worth the visit or price unless you are looking for a unique and quiet atmosphere rather than outstanding food.

                                                              Beautiful place to have dinner but too pricey for what you get and experience level of staff was lacking. I had to ask for a new knife to use with my main course rather than getting butter from bread service on my fish. Speaking of my fish, the mahi-mahi cane completely uncooked. Unedible. My partner’s chicken was good but he was done before management got to our table to offer another dish. So I didn’t get dinner but we were given a free meal. Who wants that experience? Definitely not the best dinner on the big island.

                                                              Hotel is under construction, but don't let that stop you from having a fabulous meal with a great view. The entire staff is impeccable, from check in person to bartender to server to the bus boy. If you are in the area or want to take a drive north from Kona, we highly recommend this establishment. First Class Award goes to this great property.

                                                              Amazing sunset views await on the deck, a limited seafood focused menu with Hawaii inspired flavors plus an extensive wine list. We enjoyed our meal and thought all food was delicious. The service was particularly good and attentive. However we would caution anyone expecting any extras for a special occasion, did not materialize.

                                                              Our dinner was absolutely delicious and the service delightful! Ordered two completely different styles of entrees (tenderloin with oxtail sauce and Kampachi with butter, caper, vegetable sauce). Both outstanding!

                                                              A friend and I had a wonderful experience celebrating a birthday. The staff is warm and friendly. They certainly make sure you are happy. Food was very good aside from finding some bones in the Hamachi sashimi.
