Opened in 1991, Max a Mia was named “Best New Restaurant” by Connecticut Magazine in its first year, and “top-grossing restaurant in its size” by Restaurant Hospitality. The restaurant is now in the good hands of Executive Chef Bob Peterson, who has brought an exciting new energy to the restaurant.

Max A Mia is the quintessential Italian experience in the Greater Hartford area. It also continues to garner awards and accolades. Featuring a traditional Italian menu, it utilizes an authentic brick oven that produces stone pies with unmatched flavor. Traditional veal, pork and pasta dishes, as well as inventive risotto offerings, set the mood for desserts including tiramisu and white chocolate polenta cake.

    7:00 reservation, was seated at 7:10, immediately had great service from waitress. They brought out olives, warm bread, marinara sauce and olive oil in a garlic clove. Nice way to start meal. I had tuscan salad - it was solid (not quite as good as Tuscano salad at Bricco's) and for dinner had a shrimp pasta special which was delicious - true jumbo size! My dining partner had the shrimp appetizer, which they loved and the chicken pasta dish which they also liked. We skipped dessert. Great overall meal. We will be back.

    Cozy, delicious and reasonably priced. Great cocktails too! I should round up to 5 stars but our dessert was pretty bad (a chocolate tort that was hard/dry and seemed like it was several days old). However I think that’s not reflective of the quality of food given that desserts are often outsourced. Our entrees specials were great! Will return.

    Our server, Genesis, was excellent. We were greeted promptly and she checked on us regularly. The timing of our courses was perfect.

    Appetizer was thrown onto our table by a random server and was overcooked. Entrees were bland and the scallops were sandy. Portion size went way down, prices went way up, menu options way down, food taste way down. 1 appetizer, 2 drinks 2 desserts was $75, they did not charge us for the entrees we didn’t eat.

    From the greeting by Hostess Jennifer and the service by Bonnie we had a great evening. The meal I wanted had an ingredient I was not familiar with. Bonnie explained it to me and I did not seem interested so Bonnie suggested an alternate. I loved the dish and next time I will try the spaghetti neo. The 4 of us had a great night at the table we requested along with Bonnie!
