Founder Dave Rather graduated from Towson in 1991. He spent many years socializing in the York Rd. corridor. He created Mom’s Social Club that brought New Orleans bands to Baltimore for New Years Parties and brought Marylanders to the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival. Having success with the social club, Dave started working on a tavern concept. His brother Adam, the cofounder and executive chef, learned his trade in St. John, Virgin Islands from Chef Aaron Willis.

The two brothers combined forces to create Mother’s Federal Hill Grille to sold out crowd New Years Eve 1997. Mother’s Federal Hill has fed over 500,000 meals to hungry guests. Mother’s has won many awards including Top Sports Bar in the country by Sporting News, Ultimate Burger in Maryland by the Food Network, multiple Best of Baltimore awards including Best Bar Food. Mother's North outdoor patio now open. Please join us on our patio, seating is first come first serve.

On the positive side, the food was enjoyable, and our server, Ariel, provided excellent service, enhancing our overall dining experience. However, there was a significant downside. Upon receiving the bill, I discovered an unexpected surcharge for using a credit card. This information was not clearly communicated beforehand, as it was only posted near the hostess stand or somewhere on the menu—places easily overlooked by most customers. I found out about the customer notification only after questioning the manager about the surcharge. Had I known about this surcharge in advance, I would have opted to bring cash to avoid the additional fee. This lack of transparency was disappointing and has impacted my decision to return. Clear communication regarding payment policies is crucial, and unfortunately, Mother's Grille fell short in this regard.

The restaurant was moderately busy but they absolutely did not have enough servers. Our server Lee/Leigh(sp?) was great - friendly and did not stop moving but she had way too many tables - and was being given absolutely no assistance whatsoever. There appeared to be more people cleaning off and setting up new tables than actually helping the customers that were already seated - with getting refills, assistance with orders, getting their bills, etc. Also, we have noticed this every time but why do they need to play music in the restaurant? It is so loud that you cannot hear your conversation. The food is great so we keep coming, but the experience could be much better.

Great scratch kitchen for the most part. Only complaint is they used to have the most delicious fresh cut French fries in the entire area. Now they have standard frozen fries that you can get anywhere and don’t taste so great.

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                We stopped in on our way to a comedy show and had dinner around 5pm on a sat evening... the place was fairly busy, but we were seated immediately... the server was very attentive, and the food came out fast... the crabcake sandwich was the size of a baseball and was mostly lump meat... my Cuban sandwich was delicious as well... it costs around 50.00 for both of us with drinks ... great place, I wish it was closer, we'd be there all the time !
