Since the opening of their acclaimed Restaurant Nicholas in 2000, Chef Nicholas Harary and his wife, Melissa, modernized the concept of fine dining. This mainstay of Red Bank garnered some of the industry’s highest praise, including 15 straight years as Zagat’s highest-rated restaurant in New Jersey, a 4-star review in the New York Times, and a position on several national “best restaurant” lists.

Now, with Barrel & Roost, the couple strips off the white tablecloths and serves up a bold new menu: made-from-scratch food that’s crazy-delicious, yet entirely accessible any night of the week. Had brunch here today. Food was warm not hot. Very good, but could have been a little hotter considering it was quiche. Overall place is great but today was a fluke I think.

Beautiful restaurant with lovely decor and nice patrons and lovely staff. Drinks were very good but all the food was pretty bad. Crunchy chicken appetizer was exactly like Chick-Fil-A nuggets. Lovely waitress had suggested their “storied specialty” of Suckling Pig. Big mistake. Looked like a hamburger that was formed of nondiscript small pieces of pork. Was definitely a very poor suggestion…. and we both had it. Nicholas is a restaurant with a beautiful history. While we still enjoyed our visit, the food was a loser. We will probably go back at some point and try a non special. But our visit was not really so good.

It was the first time for our guest who is on a gluten free diet and the server was so helpful in explaining the menu options. Food and drinks were delicious!! 🍺🍲🍷 Will be coming back again to try the pizza 🍕
