Since the opening of their acclaimed Restaurant Nicholas in 2000, Chef Nicholas Harary and his wife, Melissa, modernized the concept of fine dining. This mainstay of Red Bank garnered some of the industry’s highest praise, including 15 straight years as Zagat’s highest-rated restaurant in New Jersey, a 4-star review in the New York Times, and a position on several national “best restaurant” lists.

Now, with Barrel & Roost, the couple strips off the white tablecloths and serves up a bold new menu: made-from-scratch food that’s crazy-delicious, yet entirely accessible any night of the week. First time there for brunch. Parking was easy. The staff was super friendly from start to finish. Excellent menu options. The food was to die for. We want to come back to try other items! So good.

The food was good and our server was excellent. Salsa were generous proportion and could have served four people. My halibut was cooked perfectly, but I wasn’t crazy about the sauce. My only real complaint was our location in the bar. We were sitting by the window, and there was a cold draft coming through the entire night. There were no other tables available so we kept our coats on. That should be fixed.

Great restaurant! My wife and I went to Nicolas to celebrate Valentine's Day. Great food and service. Good value. Will definitely be back.

Honestly, the food is not a 10/10. I got one of the pastas that came with short rib on it and it was flavorless. It barely came with any short rib and was honestly so overpriced for what it was. The absolute best part of the entire experience was our waitress Wendy. Great waitresses are hard to come by nowadays and this lady was on her game. She was funny, personable, attentive, and super efficient. I personally was not a huge fan of the food but the service from Wendy turned a lot of it around for me.

Our Apps were outstanding. We had the Octopus and the Fried Ribs. Entrees were ok, no where near as as good as the apps. Cocktails were pricey. Rice Pudding for desert was just ok too. Entrees we had Swordfish - over cooked and tough Suckling Pig - good but not what i was expecting. Pig was deconstructed and reformed Mussels - average Short Ribs - good No vegan options or no gluten free options only pasta
