   Went there on a Friday evening and the place was half empty. The atmosphere was very flat and the experience was not one I would want to repeat. Some dishes were good but the hake Kyiv was frankly disappointing. It was supposed to be served with a lobster butter but there wasn’t the most hint of a lobster flavour. In fact, this is a dish that is probably ill conceived. While chichen may work in a Kiev, hake does not. Service was so so. All in all disappointment.

   Only problem was when we got the wrong beers at the start of our meal. They didn’t have what we ordered so Instead of offering us a choice of what they did have, they just brought up 2 peroni’s

   Fantastic value lunch with fabulous dishes. The mash with Guinness gravy is to die for! Shame it wasn’t busier, it deserves to be packed.

   As always we had the best time at Pearly Queen. Amazing food and drinks, but it's also the super friendly service that means we will continue to return. Love this place.

   The snacks and mains were exceptional, but unfortunately the small plates missed the mark for us (we had the Wild seabass, winter tomato, Iberico ham which just tasted like tomato and nothing much else, and the Chalkstream trout tartare, soy, egg yolk which again felt overwhelmed by the soy flavour). The wine list is great - particularly recommend the Sancerre. A lot of the seating is side-by-side/counter style, which isn't preferred by all. The service is excellent. Tom Brown is continuing to do really innovative things with fish. You'll eat stuff here that you won't ever try again! It feels like early days Cornerstone (when it was at it's best). It wasn't perfect, but it was still very very good.

   We were seated in the corner which was lovely and full of natural light. The restaurant was disarmingly quiet which I wasn't expecting even for a Tuesday and we were one of two tables. The fresh oysters were lovely, but the crispy buffalo oyster was lost in the coating and ranch dressing which over powered everything. The chalkstream trout tartare was ok but not very well balanced and could have done with more acidity to offset the richness and yolk. The hake kyiv was a lovely dish and a bit more sating after the lighter dishes as part of the sharing set menu. £124 including service and two cocktails is pretty good these days, but for sharing plates there is better value. The large plates sound lovely but start at 27 and go up to 30 which is quite steep.

   Quality food served in an innovative way. We had the Saturday set menu (£30/head) and had four taster dishes - all outstanding. Lovely venue, modern and fun.
