The Port Bistro and Pub, located in the heart of Port Jefferson, NY is a family friendly restaurant that serves classic dishes and specializes in old world authentic foods and recipes. The tap and bottled beer and wine selections rival any restaurant on Long Island. Owners Bob Nyholm, Chris Nyholm and Palma DiVito have decades of experience in the food industry. And endeavor to offer a casual, enjoyable dining experience for lunch and dinner every day of the week. The restaurant’s dining room and bar now occupy the former home of Port Jefferson’s Original Elks’ Hotel dating back to the 1930’s. Port’s Chef focuses on the farm to table concept, using organic and all fresh ingredients when creating the regularly changing menus. Daily fresh fish dishes are a staple, too. Old World Authentic dishes, from fresh pastas to desserts are inspired by traditional recipes of the owners’ and chef’s ancestors from Greece, Germany, Southern Italy and other European regions.

Celebrated my birthday with my girlfriends at Port Bistro on a Sunday Afternoon. The place was pretty much empty which was nice but the food (enjoyed the Caesar wrap and sweet potato fries) and drinks (recommend the lemoncello spritz) were pretty good! Our server was amazing - friendly and attentive. Website listed live music which didn’t happen but for the better as we got to enjoy our conversations without having to yell over noise.

A comfortable place to eat and drink. Wonderful friendly service and great food. Had Angus burger sliders. Generously sized and juicy and delicious. The BLT triple decker was also terrific. It was our first time. Will be back. It was not at all busy. Too bad the people don’t know what they’re missing.

There was an event in town so it was understandably crowded. We waited for a table and our food for awhile even though we had a reservation. But the staff was very nice and did their best considering the volume of people. Menu was surprisingly varied for what I thought would be ordinary pub food. There was live music which was nice.

The inside looked more like a diner than a bistro. The heat must have been broken, it was cold in the restaurant. We asked the waitress if they could turn up the heat and she said they just did. It never came on and we ate with our coats on along with the rest of the people in there. The food was good, they had a 2 piece band playing which was nice. The prices were reasonable but I don’t think I’ll be going back anytime soon.

Food is always good at Port Bistro this time was no exception . We all order burgers everyone was cooked to our specific requests. Best burger I’ve had in a long time. Can’t wait to go back!!!!

The seasonal menu had lots of choices to choose from! Chicken Pot pie was excellent and a perfect portion. Burger was average and no gluten free buns but accommodated with lettuce and tomato on the side. Fries were excellent. The service was excellent and efficient - all the staff worked as a team with even the bartenders bringing the drinks to the table. The big thing that Port can do to is to upgrade the ambiance. Cloth linens and matched lighting would be a good start. Some of the lighting was harsh. Music for a Saturday night was a nice touch.

Food was decent, French fries amazing. Went with husband(birthday) & 4 kids(20-12). Everyone’s meal came out except my husband’s. He ordered an Ocktoberfest special. No mention was made that it would take extra time. In fact they even forgot he still needed his meal . We had to ask 2 times to see what was up. By the time it finally came out 2 we’re finished with their meal completely & mine was cold due to waiting to start when he got his. Waitress said sorry about that & no other explanation. The cost was very expensive for food we could get anywhere & much better quality in Port Jeff just across the street. Not sure if they were short staffed in the back or not but to pay that amount & not even eat together was a let down. We are locals so will go to other Port Jeff restaurants before here.

We made reservations for 3 people at noon on a Sunday. The restaurant opens at noon. We were seated right away, given complimentary muffin tops, which were burnt on the bottom, and a water jug for the table. There was hair stuck to the water jug and salt on the bench. The waitress and other staff were friendly. Two of us ordered the brunch drink special of unlimited bellini's for two hours. We ordered three different salads each with grilled chicken. It took a while to get both the drinks and salads. The presentation was fine but the chicken was cold out of the refrigerator, rubbery and tasted burnt. After we were served it was difficult to get someone's attention to order drink refills and even longer to actually get the drinks. We ordered dessert at 3:05. At 3:20 we were told they were out of canolli cream for the canolli so I asked for a scoop of ice cream notifying them that I had a 4:15 ferry to catch. They came back out and said they were making more canolli cream. At 3:30 my 2 friends received their desserts and I was told they were working on mine. They brought the check before the dessert which arrived at 3:45. I had them put it in a to-go container. We waited another 15 minutes for them to return the bill for which we gave them 3 credit cards and said to divide evenly. When I finally got to eat my dessert on the ferry, I discovered they didn't pipe the cream into the canolli shells. The shells were empty and they only put cream on the ends. We did enjoy the live music. We know we were at the restaurant a long time, but we had asked the waitress in advance if it was alright to stay in the booth and she said it was alright. At no time was the restaurant full nor was there ever a weight for a table. At times there was only one or two other tables occupied.
