Chef Mathew Peters, the first American to win the prestigious Bocuse d'Or in 2017, is bringing his culinary expertise to the heart of Austin with the opening of Prelude, an elevated cocktail bar and canapé lounge set in a historic home in West Austin. The space has a beautiful back lawn lounge with views of downtown Austin and private rooms throughout the house that can accommodate groups of 6-18 with private events options of groups up to 120 guests.

Prelude will offer a unique Austin experience, combining innovative cocktail creations with elevated small bites. The menu will feature a curated selection of small plates, designed to complement the bar programs signature cocktails and highlight Chef Peters' culinary artistry. Please note that our kitchen closes each evening at 10 pm.

Join Prélude during Happy Hour Tuesday-Thursday from 4-6 pm for $2 oysters and drink specials.

I’ve visited Prélude three times now, starting about six weeks after they opened, and each visit has offered something unique. Helmed by Matthew Peters, known for his work at the three-Michelin-starred Per Se and French Laundry, Prélude focuses on French canapés and cocktails, and it’s truly a feast for the senses. I’ll admit, I didn’t have much experience with French canapés before dining here, and I’d never even heard of Gougères. But after being introduced to these delightful cheese puffs at Prélude, I’ve become a devoted fan. Their execution here is flawless: airy, flavorful, and indulgent in the best way. On the cocktail front, I’ve worked my way through a variety of their creative concoctions: Chili & Chocolate, Quatro Negroni, Carrot & Oat, Apples & Elderflower (a refreshing non-alcoholic option), Pines & Miso, and Carrot & Hazel. During my first visit, after chatting with the server about my preferences, I was lucky enough to be brought a Wasabi Penicillin: a cocktail they were experimenting with that hasn’t yet made it to the menu. It was bold, balanced, and completely unforgettable. Much to my disappointment, I wasn’t able to order it during my second visit. The Maître d’ always treats me like royalty here, which adds a touch of elegance to the experience and makes me feel genuinely valued as a guest. My second visit was marred by inattentive service, and the music was distractingly loud, making it difficult to hold a conversation. Thankfully, the ambiance at Prélude always makes up for it. If you were lucky enough to experience the Here Nor There pop-up back in February 2023, you’ll recognize the stunning space: breathtaking chandeliers, warm fireplaces, French pocket doors, unique wallpaper, sumptuous curtains, and luxurious finishes that transport you far from the bustle of the city. The exterior is just as enchanting as the interior. The glowing tree and gas sconces out front create a romantic and elegant atmosphere, and they double as the perfect

The ambiance is perfect for an intimate date or drinks with friends. My wife and I stopped by before dinner to enjoy a cocktail (or three). The server was terrific, providing us drink and food recommendations that aligned with our dietary restrictions (allergies). We will definitely be back!

Meh. The ambiance was great and so was the staff. I realize you're paying for the whole experience, but $20-30 for a mixed drink is a bit excessive. We ordered the chicken nuggets and I jokingly asked the staff if they get them from Chick-Fil-A. She responded and said theirs was much better. I should have saved $20 bucks (for 4 nuggets!) and gone to CFA for a 10 piece meal.

Incredible! Super sexy and moody! Loved the music. Drink was made to perfection and thought the bites were delish! Perfect for a date or girls dinner ;)

Good drinks, very attentive service. Well made cocktails. Nice location, beautiful venue inside with paid street parking. Food wise, the MASA GOUGERES were delicious bites. Not many veg options but the focus is cocktails and we had dinner after at a different restaurant. Would definitely recommend for pre or post dinner drinks.

Incredible service, cocktails, and the delicious food from Matt and his team... can't with to see what is in store with Maven! Prelude is a must try! I'm certain they will gain attention from Michelin in the near future!

Prelude is the perfect destination for any occasion—whether you're celebrating something special, catching up with friends, or simply looking to enjoy a delicious drink in a vibrant, welcoming atmosphere. We sampled the tartare and the ponzu, and both dishes were great, full of fresh flavours, Prelude is a must-visit. Highly recommend!
