Very poor, and turned what was a special occasion into something memorable for all the wrong reasons. We were asked after and 90 minutes what our names were 10 minutes later we were presented with the bill and told that we need to leave despite a number of empty tables around us. In the end a compromise was that we could sit at the bar to finish our drinks. Which we did and watched as our table a few others were left empty for at least another hour. Surely the Savoy has not become MacDoanlds? fast food, granted vey nice food, but rushing you through what should be a relaxed and joyous night out. After 21 years as a regular that was very disappointing.

Don’t eat here if you are hungry ! Our group of 4 chose the festive menu for lunch, which was a mistake as the portions for each of the courses were tiny The devilled prawn starter had a cold dense dry muffin which did nothing for the dish. The chicken main course was less than half a slice of chicken breast and was only lukewarm so had to be sent back to the kitchen for a replacement! The hake was a tiny little piece of fish with less than 1 shredded sprout as an accompaniment! The ambience and the service was very nice but don’t go there for any food treat as you will be disappointed. Wonder how often G Ramsey visits to check on the chefs and kitchen??

I was kind of shocked. The Savoy is lovely and cocktails at the American Bar before were superb. But the River Restaurant was a miss for our Thanksgiving dinner. The atmosphere did not equal the other dining options at the Savoy at all. The service was spotty to say the least, and the food was just not up to Gordon Ramsey quality in my opinion. We spent over $600 US for three of us with only one inexpensive bottle of wine…it wasn’t worth it. Disappointed.

Usually, dining at the River is a great experience. But this time it was awful. We had a reservation at 7:30pm for 8 guests including 3 young children (2 1/2, 5 and 7 years old). Not only did we have to wait over 10 minutes to be greeted (due to the new organization with the opening of the Gallery) but we had to complain to the manager after a very long wait for our dinner to be served. Seated at 7:45pm, the orders arrived at 8:50pm!!! Over an hour of being served with hungry young children! And that's not all: one of the side dishes was missing; we informed the waitress. But when the side dish was finally served, the guest had finished his main course, of course.... What a shame! And not even compensation (at least, the missing side dish should have been free) The River? Never again!
