Located in the historic Fulton Market district of Chicago’s West Loop neighborhood, Rose Mary is Chef/Owner Joe Flamm’s debut restaurant inspired by his Italian heritage and the bold, bright flavors of Croatian cuisine. The boisterous space—named for Flamm’s grandmothers, Mary and Mary Rose, and the herb rosemary, which grows natively along the Italian and Croatian coastlines—offers a seasonal menu of rustic yet refined dishes that encapsulate what Flamm has coined “Adriatic drinking food”.

Due to a glut of options, there are few places in Chicago that spark the “when are we coming back?” conversation before the main course is finished. This is one of those places. The dishes were comfortable yet complex, making you realize, there’s a talent-level in the kitchen that makes them impossible to replicate. Each bite from first course through dessert was exceptional, which is a feat considering we were last seating on a Tuesday night. What made the experience was the service. Lauren S. was welcoming and informative without being pushy. She deftly answered all of our questions that felt like she was guiding us through the menu based on her expertise not her opinion. This included steering us away from certain dishes when she understood our flavor profiles, and explaining things without ruining the surprise. Her attention to little things without feeling crowded made us realize what front of house talent does to heighten the experience. The only knock was the nitty-picky things on the space. The bathroom was a bit disheveled, there was a crud on the handle of a fork (nothing on the tongs, I checked before using it). Extremely minor unless you’re judging for Micheline stars. Simply put, where it matters everything is well thought out from concept to execution. If you can get in, it’s an absolute no-brainer.

My wife and I are huge Top Chef fans so we were excited to finally visit Joe Flamm's restaurant and we weren't disappointed. The food was excellent especially the Tuna Crudo and Rigatoni. The ambiance was also very nice. The only area for improvement would be the hospitality side. We were sat down without menu's and no one welcomed us for about 10min as we just sat there. The restaurant also continues to push QR code menus. In a post COVID world this practice should go away at fine dining restaurants.

The atmosphere is lively and vibrant, though a bit on the loud side, which made it challenging to hold a conversation. The food was decent but didn’t quite live up to the hype. Portions were generally small, with the exception of the meats, which were generous. The cocktails were just okay, nothing particularly memorable. Overall, I found the prices to be on the high side for the quality and value of what you get. While the ambiance was enjoyable, the experience fell short of expectations for the cost.

Rose Mary continues to be one of my favorite restaurants in Chicago. Everything on the menu is amazing and service is exceptional. The open kitchen brings a creative and unique atmosphere. The cacio e Pepe is a standout and the zucchini fritters with the pesto aioli never fail to hit the spot. Definitely a must try in Chicago!

Such great food. Plenty of veggie options. The service was impeccable. We loved the beet salad, the pasta, and the apple tart. Simply delicious.

Absolutely fantastic. First time and absolutely will be back. A new favorite for a Chicago food scene lover. I made a reminder on my calendar a month before my birthday to remind me to make a reservation at Rosemary on my birthday. Looking forward to many more visits.
