   Having lived in Mexico City for years, I'd always thought the Saks restaurants were almost like a VIPS restaurant, decent but not excellent. After years of living back in the States, this was my second visit to the Saks restaurant in San Ángel & I was pleasantly surprised. The building itself is beautiful, with its Mexican colonial architecture. The bar downstairs when you enter to the left is gorgeous, but we were directed to our table upstairs towards the back. It was a cozier setting than I expected but with our party of 3 it was great because the noise level wasn't high, as opposed to other areas. The food was exceptional as was the service. My only complaint was that toward the end of the meal they tried to sell us some tequila, presenting us with 2 different types in beautiful bottles, but pricey. Other than that, the drinks were great, the guacamole with small cubes of steak yummy, & everyone's entree fantastic. Mine was a "taboada" fish atop a seafood bisque that was delicious. We shared 2 desserts, one sort of a key lime pie & the other, an apricot creme brûlée that were delectable. I highly recommend this place in a lovely & picturesque neighborhood!

   Saks at San Angel is a restaurant that has a lot of traffic due to the location. Before making a reservation, I read several reviews and I was very excited to visit this establishment. However, I was not impressed, rather disappointed. Upon arrival at the restaurant, the hostess (Ana) was rude, condescending, and unprofessional. I spoke fluent Spanish with her, informing her that we had a reservation and I gave her my last name. The hostess said nothing but asked for "breakfast" or "Lunch" and then pointed to the entrance, informing her colleagues that we were entering the establishment. Upon entrance, a lady dressed in white, who identified herself as the manager, escorted us to our table. I informed of what transpired at the entrance and immediately offered an apology. We sat at our table and a young man was our waiter. He immediately took the order, but it took about 25 to 30 minutes before the drinks and appetizers arrived. The main course came after the appetizer, with no time to enjoy the appetizers. Overall, the meals and portions were delicious. Before leaving, the manager brought a container with four pastries for the inconvenience. Although a good touch, the best customer service is the one that nothing should have happened. I do not think I will return to this establishment.

    I make it my mission to eat at Saks whenever I’m in CDMX, either Polanco or San Angel. It never disappoints. The combo meal is such a great value and the food is consistently delicious. Well worth the wait.
